How can anyone watch standard def?

Totally Clueless
I am wanting to buy a projector. My price limit is $1000.00. This will be for we for family viewing only. My provider is Dish Network. I just want a reliable, viewable family oriented tv. Can you help/suggest/whatever. Thanks in advance.
