Default Samsung HLN437Wx DLP - Dim when using DVI, Service Menu Option?

My Samsung DLP has been running great for 5 years. Just recently however all the HD ports have seemingly hit a glitch. My TiVo is on Component 2 and my DVD player (hooked up with a DVI to HDMI cable) have two different symptoms.

On my Component ports, the video seems to have shifted to the left 4 or so inches. I was able to reset that using the service menu and changing the X coordinates.

My DVI port is a little more severe - the output is really really really dim. I've switched my TiVo over to the DVI just to make sure that it's not the DVD player and it comes up the same way. The DVD also works OK on Component 3

There might be other things wrong with the video in addition to the dimness, but without being able to see it I won't know. Does anbody know if there is a 'reset to default' type of option on the service menu for the DVI port, or what option would increase the brightness?

Thanks,

Bill

first thing is process of elimination , try hooking up a different source with different cables, if good either cables or box. if still bad check to see what OSD looks like if good, could be DMD board or Digital board. there is a test pattern , thru service menu . with set off mute 182 power, scroll dowm to service then to test pattern . in this pattern it is generated thru DMD board . if bad video DMD board is bad. if good bad digital board.i have seen alot of cheap chinola cables cause this pattern along with other wierd patterns. good luck .. john

I have tried multiple sources with the same result. So I can assume the problem is either with the DVI port, DMD board, or DVI to HDMI cable.

Would a cable that previously worked fine go 'bad' ? I guess that seems like the cheapest solution to at least try.

As indicated, devices on the Component ports now work fine after some adjustments to the X positions. My assumption was perhaps some setting to the DVI port got wacked that could be adjusted, much as I adjusted the Component port settings in the service menu.

I see no 'test pattern' option when I'm under the service menu. If anybody knows how to generate it I would appreciate it.

Cheap or expensive, the cable price doesn't matter. Either it works or it doesn't. Try www.monoprice.com for all of your high quality cable needs at low, low prices.

I doubt it's the cable.
