Thumbs up Panasonic TC-P58V10 released

VIERA's wide color gamut covers 120% of the HDTV color standard. This approaches the level of colors in cinemas and produces images with extremely rich colors.

THX reproduces movie images exactly as the movie's creators intended them. In the early 1980's, Lucasfilm, established the THX Standard to stipulate the audio and video quality criteria for cinema environments. The overall aim was to improve the experience of cinema-goers and faithfully recreate the audio and visual ambience that film makers intended. VIERA meets the high standards set by the THX Certified Display Program.

Enjoy the Internet contents* right on your TV. With VIERA CAST™ technology, you can enjoy online content such as videos, photos, weather and stock information through an easy-to-use Web interface that's built into the TV. No extra equipment required.

600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution**. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.

Over 2,000,000:1* High Contrast (Native 40,000:1)
New VIERA models incorporate an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system combines with NeoPDP technology to achieve next-generation black reproduction. When you're watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it's difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark.

VIERA recreates the unique atmosphere of movie images. Enjoy cinema quality in your own home. The images that are recorded onto movie film at 24 frames per second (fps) are reproduced at four times that speed by 24p Cinematic Playback. This achieves film like reproduction than 2:3 pull down method.

View breathtaking images with rich, vivid colors from anywhere in the room. Because plasma TVs are self-illuminating, images look beautiful from any angle. Black areas do not fade, and colors look virtually the same no matter where you sit.

This advanced filter keeps images sharp, with minimal glare. While dramatically reducing reflections from external light, it helps to produce clear images. This filter creates pure, crisp images in a wide range of colors.

BBE ViVA is new High Definition 3D Sound technology which integrates a 3Denhancement effect with BBE High Definition Sound. ViVA creates an authentic and exciting 3D sound effect from stereo speakers while preserving the clarity, definition, presence and texture for which BBE High Definition Sound is noted. BBE ViVA is now being offered to BBE licensees in the consumer electronics industry.

It's easy to view full-HD images with the SD card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD card into VIERA to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen.
You can also choose from among 3 types of background music and 4 display effects. It's much more fun when you can view them on a large-screen HDTV with family and friends in 1920 x 1080-pixel high definition and a wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

VIERA Link allows interconnected operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable.

With the new VIERA Tools user interface, simply press a button on the remote control and icons such as the photos or movies from the menu screen. Now you can just select the one you want. This kind of easy operation means you have more fun and less hassle.

In Game mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works anti-image retention (wobbling) too.

The level of colors for HD is 16.7 million colors. The same for SD. They are at 8 bit color depth (gamut).

The DMD’s use pulse-width modulation to generate color intensity and are capable of up to 15 bits of color depth. This allows over 1 trillion colors to be displayed.

I guess you then missed the part about the TV being 12 bit.

But the content is 8bit.

12bit would yield BILLIONS of colors - not a 20% increase over 16.7M

Didn't it say something about "expanding" (which I read as the same as upscaling) from 8 bit when actually displayed?

We do know that it is usually better to do conversions at least at 10 bit internally for scaling purposes even if the output is brought back to 8 bit for display from what I read about 1 year ago when this whole HDMI DeepColor debacle started.

We both agree that 1080P coming from an HDMI DVD player is not HD. So why would 8 bit coming from any HD source all of a sudden be considered a higher/deeper color gamut when "upscaling" is applied?

How does it know it add other color hues outside the 16.7M correctly? Guess?

Pretty much, but IF the display can handle they higher count of different colors it could look better "maybe".

I highly recommend the V10. I have the 54" and that seems huge, can't imagine the 58"
