have you considered buying a Panasonic plasma like the 54" G10 model? I think you would be happy with that and not have those issues with uniformity, and get a better picture as well for less money.
Hello PFC5. I'm glad you liked my story, which by the way is my first ever post on the Internet. Have you really made 25,725 posts here?! Yes, I am now considering a plasma, since several people have told me the latest models can be used as computer monitors. But I am rather looking forward to seeing the new Samsung 8500 backlit LED TV. When it arrives (hopefully not too long), I will compare it with some plasmas (like the G10) and make a decision. For 3 years I have owned a Samsung 32 inch ordinary LCD TV (1366 by 768), and (like Techlord) have been very happy with it. In the last two weeks I have for the first time appreciated the fact that it has a perfectly uniform picture with no weird dark areas like the TV I just returned. In fact, I had never thought about this issue before.

There are many more "problem with Samsung" threads at this forum than any other brand by far.....I realize Samsung is the top seller but they apparently let a lot of inferior displays slip through quality control.

Lets hope that Samsung doesn't only care about sales of its product, but also improves its quality control. How could Samsung not know about its dark patches on its LED TV's? If they did know about it they probably thought customers wouldn't ever notice it, in any case Samsung's LED TV's were not ready for the general public as they are a seriously flawed product.

Same dark corners as described here with my new 8000 series 55". Doesn't bother me too much as it can only be seen on light images, but a TV this expensive should be near perfect!

Should I just wait and see if Samsung owns up to it, or try and return for a refund, or store credit for the new 8500?

I would go for a Plasma if i were you. These back lit LED LCD's seem to all be suffering from screen uniformity issues to some extent.

If you can get a refund, try looking into a Plasma. Pretty much everyone on this forum will tell you that you can't go wrong with the current Panny Plasma's on the market. If you can afford a Kuro that is even better.

If Samsung owned up to it they would have to shell out millions of dollars to customers, stay away from the LED TV's period! They all suffer from the same flawed technology Samsung puts out! As for their LCD Tvs they are excellent when compared to the LED TV's! Don't get pulled into new flawed technology and do not become an early adopter of new tech either!

non uniform screen (also called Mura) is not problem with SAMSUNG, this is problem with all LCD panels, SONY XBR line was plagued with this issue, i have a SAMSUNG and SONY LCD set they both show upto some extent a non uniform screen (only in dark scene with dark room) i had an older SAMSUNG which was very bad with mura effect. My point is all the top of the line LCD are still behind basic plasma sets which in some case cost less than half of LED sets. 40 inch LED LCD panel is around 2K as compared to 1080p 42 inch plasma for $800.

Do you mean where to buy one? If so Amazon.com type in LNB750 in Amazon search bar. It will show all the B750 series.

If you are planning on sticking to LCD than i would opt for the B750 LCD's from Samsung because they offer overall better screen uniformity than the LED's.

But here is something you should consider though, If your TV happens to have a problem or defect are you really willing to put up with Samsung's poor customer service again?

Its a hit or miss with any warranty customer service, as long as the customer service reps you are talking to are from over seas you will have a difficult time. When my Panny 27" SDTV went bad whenever I got a customer service rep in another country, it was like talking to a wall. However when I got lucky and talked with a rep here in the good old USA things were smoothly, if you ever need a customer service rep and get one from another country hang up until you get someone here in the states.
