What is HD?

Hello all,
I just bought my first LCD HD TV for my apartment this fall. I purchased a Sharp Aquos LC-40E67UN for $800 with a free stand (worth $200). I am having a bit of buyers remorse right now. I intended to buy the Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100. I found out that the Sony was a 2008 model and for the same price I got the 2009 Sharp model. I did a bit of research before my purchase but I guess it was not enough.Looking at reviews now and the Sharp does not seem to have many good ones. So I was wondering if anyone has either of these TVs and has any information about them. I have not opened up the Aquos yet so I could easily return it. The TV will be used to watch sports and play video games, as with most college students. So what do you guys think. Sharpe Aquos LC-40E67UN (+ free stand) or Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100 (w/o stand I appreciate any feedback. Thank you. |

I think Samsung & Sony currently make the best LCDs, and Toshiba just came out with some new LCDs that are their equal from what i have read. I would say Sharp LCDs are likely 5th or 6th on the list of brands I would buy at this point. Sharp use to be the LCD king a few years ago, but they have not kept pace with the competition IMO.

In January I got a Sharp 52" LCD 120hz because it was $400 less than the Sony 52W4100 that I wanted (the 52V4100 was my second choice). A month later, after reading disappointing reviews and experiences about Sharp, I got concerned about my long term peace of mind. So I ante'd up the $400 and exchanged it for the Sony... been sleeping like a baby ever since!
The Sharp picture quality was good, but the Sony's was slightly better. I learned about banding on boards like this and found minor banding on my Sharp. The Sharp's bezel was plasticky cheapy looking, the Sony was much better (not as nice as the Samsung's though). There was nothing I liked about the Sharp that surpassed the Sony. I would recommend spending the extra cash today so you will be happy for many years to come.
