I can purchase a brand new Sony 42" Plasma KDE-42XS955 for $3600, which is quite a price drop from just 2 months ago. My question is why? Two salespeople today at two different stores and two "explanations". First was, Sony is coming out with a new model so this one is being closed out. Said newer model would have better technology. Second one was that there is no new model coming out and Sony is getting out of the plasma TV business.
Does anyone out there know what the real story is??? Is this a good Sony model at a good price? Should I wait for the new "better" model? Is Sony really leaving the plasma TV business? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. This is a big decision for me and I am very confused. Thank you!!! |

To answer quickly, yes, they are getting out of plasma, IMO.
A joint venture with Samsung will see a big push for LCD. I'll post back with the link after I find it... ![]() http://www.techbuilder.org/news/59200466 Update;http://www.motherdigital.info/archiv...pulls_the.html Apparently Sony has denied their statement and will continue to support plasma, but I couldn't find any new models planned... Thank you for ther input FourK!
All that said, I'm curious if the folks on this board would avoid the Sony if they may be leaving the plasma business. That Sony 42" I am looking at got good reviews, I liked it in the store compared to others and the price has come down quite a bit - not married to it though. I would like some opinions, as I am new to plasma. Not moving into new home until late August or September, so I have time. Any other Sony plasma owners out there with good or bad stories? Think the plasma prices in general will come down even more or technology will be better in later 2005 models? Would love any thoughts - Sony or otherwise, and thanks! |
