Default Why my HD channel show pictures in 1080i? Dead pixels?

Got my LN52B750 (1080p)two days ago.

I live in Maryland and I have Comcast cable TV. I watched a few HD channels and I notice that they are all 1920x1080i @ 60Hz.

Why are they not 1080p? Why are they 60Hz. Can I manually change the refresh rate?

How can I find dead pixels easily? I need advice about the TV settings, etc. in which I can easily spot dead pixels. Heard people talking about dead pixels. Kind of concerned.

Cheers!

Shows are at best broadcast in 1080i. Noone broadcasts in 1080P. Too much bandwidth is required for that.

Broadcast tv is maximum 1080i, but your tv is upconverting it to 1080p as all HDtvs display at their native resolution only. So what you are seeing is 1080p. For native 1080p signals you need a blu ray player or newer game system. You can't adjust your tv for what it receives as a signal.

If you don't see any spots on your tv when you are watching it, relax and enjoy it, don't go looking for every imperfection in the world, if you can't see it, assume your tv is good.

Thanks for info and advice.

So I cannot manually change the refresh rate to 240Hz my LN52B750 is capable of, correct?

I have a DVD player, not blue-ray. So I cannot get 1080p out of a DVD player, correct?

Just want to confirm.

Thanks!

Just want to confirm.

Thanks!

Got another question:

When my Samsung LN52B750 was delivered, the delivery guy from Pilot (I bought it from Amazon) helped to set up the TV. He said my TV's screen is relative darker than the same model he set up for other customers.

What could be the reason? Good or bad? Any suggestion?

Thanks!

I really don't think he knew what he was talking about. After all he is a Pilot driver (that's where his expertise is) not a TV repairman, calibrator or reviewer. Either he was pulling your leg or just wanted to make himself look big in your eyes. At least that's my take.

And he may be used to seeing TV's in torch mode which is not the correct setting for a home environment.

That last part is the most likely reason, but the others are likely part of it also. I never ask my trash collector about my roof or electrical stuff.

That's a good one, I'll have to remember that...

Isn't it amazing how many audio and video "experts" crawl out of the woodwork to tell you how wrong you are/your equipment selection is?

Can somebody provide a checklist of things to check when a new LCD TV such as my Samsung LN52B750 arrives?

I am new in this stuff and would like to ensure I checked everything during my 30-day free-return period.

Thank you!
