Default 32" LCD help

Hey everyone. So it's time to step up to HD. I'm a college student, and am trying to make the most out of my limited budget. A few friends and I are pitching in to get a decent-sized LCD for our apartment. Preferably, we'd like to keep it under $600, but are willing to pay a little bit more if it would make a big difference. Any help would be appreciated. I'll try to answer the questions from the sticky, plus some more to help narrow down what I'm looking for.

1. The living room is small, and I'm guessing we'll be between 5 and 8 feet away from the TV most of the time.

2. It won't be replacing any TV. This is our first HD LCD.

3. Approximate use is as follows: SD TV: 15%; HD TV: 15%; Movies (SD DVD's most likely): 25%; Sports: 30%; Video Games: 15%

4. Will a computer be connected to use the display as a monitor? Unlikely, but may be connected for watching movies/shows purchased on iTunes every now and then.

5. Most likely, we will not have a blue-ray player. We will be relying on a PS2 as our DVD player. TV content will be about a 50/50 mix of SD and HD.

6. We're looking for the best bang for the buck, up to a certain extent. If we can't get it, we'll settle for the best in a lower class that is within our price range.

7. Room lighting will be a problem. We have windows all around, which will cast light on the TV at all different kinds of angles.

What I'm looking for:
- At least 32". Of course, the bigger the better
- At this size, 720p is fine, but 1080p is (obviously) preferred
- I really like deep blacks and accurate color. These are more important than brightness for me
- We're partial to Sony, but are willing to look at other brands as Sony is typically more expensive
- Solid speakers, as we don't have any system to hook it up to. Good sound really helps movies come alive

Things we don't want:
- Any screen noise or jitter
- Screen glare. The TV will be placed in a small living room with LOTS of light, so screen glare is a problem

What I've been looking at:
Sony KDL-32L5000
LG 32LH20
Sony KDL-32M4000 (if we can find a GREAT deal to get it close to $600)
Sony KDL-S5100 (if we can find a GREAT deal to get it close to $600

Sorry about the long description. If you made it through I commend you.

I guess my question is what do you think about the TV's we've been looking at? Any other suggestions would happily be considered as well. There are so many out there, and each company does such a great job of making theirs sound superior. At the moment, we're quite confused. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm kind of in a similar situation. I'm looking for a 32" set for a bedroom and am on a tight budget. I can't really comment on the TV's you've listed. But you might also consider a Vizio. Especially if budget is a concern. There's a 1080p set in your price range that I've read a lot of positive things about. Though I've seen a fair share of complaints about the speakers on that set. They're also coming out with a new 1080p set with 120hz next month I believe. Here's the specs:

Model: VL320M
Size: 32" LCD
Resolution: FULL HD 1080P 1920x1080
Contrast: 50,000:1 Mega DCR
HDMI inputs: 3
Game Port: Yes
Audio Enhancements: SRS TruSurround HD
Availability: Spring 2009
Price: $599.99

I've also been looking at a Samsung LN-32B360 which seems like a decent entry level set.

if you want bang for the buck and can increase your budget by about $100, costco has a 37" vizio 1080 LCD for $689 (VO37LF). and they give you an extra year of warranty for free. i'm sure one of you (or your parents) has a costco membership. if not, you can order it online and pay a small non-membership fee.
