My plasma is High Def.

Hello again everyone,
I'm looking to pay in the 800$CAN to 1500$CAN range for a good TV. My top priority is 1080p, and hopefully a good cinelike quality to watch Blue Ray disks as they are meant to be, not juiced up by some manic depressive processor. At the moment, these models interest me and are available in my price range. Do you any of these really stand out ? Or on the contrary, should I avoid some of these ? And if so, why ? Toshiba 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (40RV525U) LG 42" 1080p Widescreen LCD HDTV** (42LG50) Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (LN40A500) Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (LN40A550) much more expensive than A500 Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (LC42D65) Sony Bravia 42" 1080p LCD HDTV** (KDL-42V4100) Panasonic 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV** (TH42PZ85) Panasonic Viera 37" 1080p LCD HDTV** (TC37LZ85) The showroom at Future Shop is a disaster, different signals, SD signals, Blue Ray on some products... It's impossible to get a real assessment of what the TVs are capable of... I saw an LG at my next door cafe, hooked on ESPN HD, it seemed extremely bright and the colours too garish for my taste. Thanks for the comments and advice. Jericho |

Thanks PFC5,
I did read that sticky, and from that I came out thinking plasma might be the good thing for me. Clean movement, natural colours. But now I'm thinking that maybe an ACL, even at 60hz, if well chosen and calibrated, could do the job. (120hz are all very expensive compared to plasma). Also, I think the plasma in the show room showed a rounder image (less noise). I'm not a fan of the "ultrasharp" with edges exaggerated, but I do want a very good resolution. So my plan is to go to the store with a carefully chosen BR disk and ask the salespeople to provide me with a reader to try different TVs with the same source. That's why I want to focus on fewer models than the long list presented here. I don't see myself spending 4 hours going through all these models... So if the comments here can help me focus on 4 models or so, that would be good. |

I would look at these models then:
Samsung 40" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (LN40A550) much more expensive than A500 Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV** (LC42D65) Sony Bravia 42" 1080p LCD HDTV** (KDL-42V4100) Panasonic 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV** (TH42PZ85) Just remember that LCDs will look much brighter in the ultra bright showrooms when compared to plasmas, but in home lighting they will look much different. If you ran those LCDs at those brightness levels you would burn your eyes out in a dimmer room. ![]() Also make sure you check out the NEW Panasonic plasma model TC-P42S1. I think you will be impressed based on what I have read. You might want to look at the SETTINGS link in my signature for a rough idea of where the settings should be at. Hope this helps!

Don't forget that if you do settle on a Plasma to care for it properly and save some cash for a proper calibration so you can get the best color accuracy. A little guide here to walk you through the process.
