Question A question on stuck pixel(s)...

Hello Forum,

In case you havent noticed, this is my first post in this forum. As in all other forums, i have used the search option to answer my question, but to no avail. Thus, im asking here for answers/opinions:

I bought a Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000 (720p) 2 days ago from WalMart. Excited as i was, i got it home and set this baby up with no issues. Friend came over, we played some games, watched some tv and then he left. After he left, i noticed directv went into "stand by mode" i guess: where the directv logo is floating all over. Since this is a black screen i noticed a green pixel (or sub pixel, perhaps?) dead smack in the center of the tv. Now, my viewing distance is about 5-6 ft. and from that distance i cant see it, but as in other threads, it just bugs me to know its there. My question, or rather 3: Would you give back or exchange your tv if it had ONE, just ONE stuck pixel that you couldnt see? And, since it already has one, can i expect in the future to have many more, or am i just being paranoid? Also, do stuck/dead pixels appear or once its there, its there for good and no more will show up? For example, i have one as of now, so will that be it forever or is it possible for more to come up in the future?

I hope this is one of those issues where, for example, you drop your phone and you're like "dammit, now its all scratched," but then you get over it and not something thats going to haunt me later on.

Thanks for the responses, i suppose...

RE2

Sorry about your luck man. I would definitely take it back and exchange it. That happened to me once right when I got it with an off-branded TV, but with a Sony, you probably just got a bad TV. Take it back and let them know it is defective with a dead pixel and they should understand and exchange it out for a new set.

Take it back BUT DON"T mention the 1 bad pixel because the manufacturers recognize only " a Group of dead pixels, as a defect I'm not exactly sure of the number of dead pixels necessary to be recognized as " defective" it's like 6 or 8 in the same general area. Simply return it to walmart and tell then it don't work properly they do not question returns because they are handled at a service desk and they will not connect it to test it. But if you tell them there's 1 dead pixel you'll be outta luck

I do see where you're coming from. But, the thing is, i like this tv so far. The picture is definitely great and i would consider it better than the LG and Vizio i had before. So, wouldnt it look a bit shady to tell them that it didnt work properly and go for the same tv? Its just a thought. Also, im returning it to WalMart, not SONY, so would they still refuse to exchange it since its "the manufacturer's fault" and not theirs? Thanks for the input though.

Why take a chance, just tell them it don't work properly and you just want to exchange it.

ImRizzo has a good point you never know what the companies (such as Sony) tell them what is an exceptable return I know walmart is usually know for returning anything but well as he said why take the chance?

Besides you could either do 2 things either tell them THIS one isnt working right can I exchange or just do a return saying its not working right and then when you go buy it you would be going to the cashiers or the electronics department (depending how your walmart does it) OR if you really want is there another walmrt close by? Return it to the one and buy it from a different one.

Hehe, the Walmart that i got it from is a good 40 minutes away and the closer one is about 15 mins Reason i bought it from the far away one is obvious: the closer one was out of stock. Anyhow, everyone i have asked, including members in this forum, has said go for it, so tomorrow im packin' it up and takin' it. Ill just say, as all you suggested, that it wasnt "working properly" and hopefully be back with with no problems and the same tv...

PS: Vinceg99, I think you're a bit more down to earth...if you know what im on about...

If they ask you to describe the problem, tell them after the sets been on for about 20-30 minutes the picture gets funny and then goes out. They are not going to set it up and wait for a half an hour, they will exchange the set for you and they simply return them to sony and it's not your problem anymore.

Update:

Last night after getting off of this forum, i thought about it, and thought about it, and thought about it forever. I almost convinced myself that it wasnt a huge deal and almost blew off not exchanging it. But, in the morning when i awoke, i called walmart (didnt wanna head over there for nothing), told the guy the tv had some "problems," and he was so cool about it. He says, "Dont worry about it. Just come in and we'll exchange it. It doesnt matter that you bought it at another walmart, just come in." I was like hehe. So that was it, basically. I went in, told the customer service rep who i spoke to and they performed the exchange with no questions or hassles what so ever. Im happy now. I can actually watch tv and not stuck pixels.

Thank you all who gave your input. You pushed me to go get my moneys worth. Thanks for all the support.

PS: Rizzo, one day, one day ill get me an XBR
