My TWC box runs fine through component however when I try HDMI it freezes up and flashes green on the TV and all sorts of things. Can this ever damage my TV? It seem slike the cable box froze and also froze my TV.

Many cable companies don't support HDMI connections due to HDCP handshake issues (like you are having). Component (red, green, blue) gives just as good a picture so many use that. I can't say your experience would damage the TV but it could. I would suggest hooking up component for the video and digital optical (Toslink) or analog (red and white) for the audio.
