Just thought I'd add my 2 cents... I own a Sharp 37" (late 2003 model), and what I once thought was motion blur on my LCD TV was in fact the normal blur associated with the camera panning etc. Take a look at these screencaps taken from an ice hockey game in HD:

Now, to the average person, if you saw this kind of blurring on live video on an LCD TV you would think it had a real motion blur problem. There certainly are some LCD TVs that do, but those with a response time of -16ms should be fine, as 16ms is the equivalent of 60fps - the highest frame rate of broadcast video (from what I've read). Movies are just 24fps.

Default HD Picture Question and Information

I was given False information at the circuit City website about my new LCD HDTV. It does'nt have a built-in HD tuner...but if you have a cable card it has a tuner for THAT.Samsung who makes the tv..has it at their website as having an ATSC terrestrial/Cable ready tuner fora cable card .Tv has a cable card slot. Tv does not have a HD tuner for off air HD antenna reception.

My question to all of you is"Since I have an 811 HD receiver from Dish network connected to my HD ready tv..I have a REAL high def picture on my tv ,right?"
is the picure with an hd satelite tuner just as good as an off air HD picture?

Any tuner that is CableCard is an ATSC tuner, the card adds the ability to unscramble to VSB & QAM demodulation tuner.

Having an HDTV & HD receiver don't guarantee you're seeing HD... depends on STB setup, connection type, and content. Your STB must output an HD res over an HD capable connection of an HD channel to your HDTV.

an internet forum is the wrong place to ask other people what to buy. You're just asking for confusion. See when people take "the plunge" they are totally satisfied with their purchase and get on the boards and plead about the great picture quality and try to obscure people into thinking that any other set is obselete. What aspiring hdtv owners do not know is that the simple fact that HDTV is the root of all this praise, not the set. HDTV is a beautiful thing and your gonna be satisfied one way or another, unless you get a no name cheap set, so dont listen to the majority of all the boasting and take it with a grain of salt when someone tells you that one set is obselete to another, hint :Myers: asking someone to tell you what to buy with a load of money is crazy! this is your money for your set, do a little research yourself and let your eyeballs do the work. dont be misleaded by commercial retailers and their crappy feeds on crt and lcd and their pure hd feeds on plasma. they do this to sell the more expensive ones to make the cheaper sets look obselete. your gonna get hit from every direction by asking someone what to buy and most likely end up with the set you didnt want or pay out of your ass for a set that is just as good as the one thats a grand cheaper. do a little research yourself on the types of sets your interested in and then let your eyeballs make the brand. picture quality is only half the buy. you must consider connectivity, compatibility, and duration of the set and it must be a set that will keep you happy years on end. the only thing i see these types of forums being good for is troubleshooting a set you've already purchased or discussing tv providers, hookups, and technology in general. Only you can truly decide what is best for your needs and make sure you have a moderate return policy if you dont like what you chose, we all mess up sometimes. As for myers all i have to say is "ABEIT, MOOT POINT". where the hell is this guy from?

Your point is exactly why mr and mrs consumer rule the market, and not the "experts" in here...thats why ED sets are selling like hot cakes...they only see what their eyes tell them and what they can afford to pay. Could not have said it better myself. The eyeball test and your wallet is all that matters and thats what I have been saying all along. More people have emailed me thanking them for pointing out the obvious as you so cleary have admitted with your own words.

well, i hope you dont think im joining your panasonic plasma campaign. Ill tell you why im not all horny over plasma. I cant play games on a plasma due to burn in so im washing my hands of it. Im not a lcd mark in any way. plasma has some better pq features than lcd, but lcd's have higher resolutions than plasmas. To put it in short, i dont feel like spending 200 hrs breaking in a set. It would be a month or two by the time i hit that mark. I also would be more comfortable with an lcd set. i dont have to worry constantly about burn in and power consumption or where the friggin pull start is. so here you go, if you can make me feel at ease about playing games on a plasma then your more of a man than i thought, fire away.

Thanks for posting this. Did you take these screen caps off of your LCD set? If so, I think I'm more impressed that you're watching ice hockey in New Zealand than all of this HD technology.

I got the Sharp Aquos LC-37G4U. Once again, another week and its still seems sharp and nice. So my refurbished fears have gone away. heres the site where i got it incase u wanted to see. http://store.yahoo.com/refurbelectro...c37g4u-rb.html

No blurring yet. THey have a feature which seems to stop it, i played with it off and saw some in action movies, but with it on, it works great.

I took the screenshots using a computer video-overlay screen capturing program (in other words, the photos are from the video data). The video itself is a transport stream clip, probably recorded from an OTA HDTV tuner card. If you've got a powerful computer, you can download the clip here, and play it in VLC Media Player.

You won't get any HD broadcasts with a regular digital cable box. You'll need specifically a digitial HD box or use an OTA antenna. Yes your TV should accept an HD signal in either 1080i or 720p format, but it can't display it in HD. The TV will downconvert the signal to 480p. That still may be attractive to you. You need to see a demo and decide if that's good enough, but this TV is not an HDTV...it's an EDTV. Good luck!
