Where did you get it? BB has geek squad and I pretty sure the black tie service plan has burn in protection. Just look at it this way, when it breaks in one year how much are you gonna pay to get it fixed, is it worth saving a couple hundred now? Someone on here just had a sony die out of warranty and sony is fighting him hard, its not worth it to have to deal with that crap.

Buy the warranty. How much do you value peace of mind?

I don't know how CC's warranties will be affected if the company disappears and then you have issues with the unit.

On a 50" plasma you need to be very certain that your extended warranty or service plan covers "in-home" service-- not all of them do. For sure you do not want to carry a 50" plasma to the shop . . .

I bought a 4 year extended plan on a Panasonic 50" plasma-- it was never used. It's like insurance; most of us buy it, and hope we do not ever need it. Some brands are reliable enough, that you probably will not need it. . . but then you may get that one in a hundred/ or one in a thousond device that will fail.

They, extended coverage plans/waranties, are probably not a "good buy" -- with that said-- I personally did buy one on both my 50" plasma and on my new 58' plasma.

If you REALLY feed the need for an extended warranty then try a company like Mack, or Squaretrade. You are purchasing the coverage yourself, not like at CC, or BB where their sales of extended warranties were 40% of annual profit at BB, and almost 100% of CC annual profit. Consumer Reports has stated in past issues that the top tier of tv sets had a 1 to 3% failure rate. I have only bought 1 extended warranty from BB, and it was a laptop. It did need the hard drive replaced under the extended warranty. When I got it back I was less than pleasantly surprised to find out that I had no operating system installed on it, and was told to go buy a new OS. I would have saved money not buying the warranty, and having the drive replaced.
