Circuit City warranty - Should I accept a Toshiba Regza for a Sharp Aquos?

First time post, so hoping to get some tech insight from intelligent folks here.

Long story as short as possible:

In 2007, I bought a Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U 42" LCD HDTV at Circuit City.

I was replacing a Soyo 720p that failed within a year so - having learned my lesson - I bought the 3-year extended warranty. I usually DO NOT buy warranties but I felt like I had been burned only a year before and didn't want to have it happen all over again. Said warranty included having a tech come to your house, being guaranteed a quick turnaround and replacement if the unit can't be easily fixed.

A few month ago, I started noticing burn in lines from the black bars - a/k/a banding - which is apparently common to this Sharp
Aquos and not awful but definitely annoying on a TV barely a year old.

I figure it's under warranty and we all know is going through some financial drama right now, so I figure best to do it now.

They are totally cool.

They send a local repair person out, that guy says that the part is more than the TV costs and that I should expect a call from CC and they will likely replace. I get that call today and the only hitch is that they are replacing with a different make and model.

They want to give me a Toshiba 42XV540U Regza series.

To me, it looks like a better TV. It is definitely a newer model.

It has a faster frame rate speed of 120hz. It looks like (2) more HDMI ports which is also decent.

My only hesitation is that I've somehow been brainwashed to believe the Sharp series is one of the best among LCDs and that the Toshiba - though well rated - might be a step down.

Should I take the Toshiba 42XV540U Regza?

Should I try to finagle a better TV or make them match it with a newest version of a Sharp? In my mind, I should be getting the comparable, newest unit from Sharp.

Anyone have any experience with this situation or can offer insight it is appreciated.

Are you correct on the Sharp model number? That model seems to have a much higher price tag than the Toshiba. What did you pay for the Sharp (forget the warranty - I mean, what was the cost of the TV itself?)

That's odd they tell you which model you can get. At bestbuy you pick your own model based on Tvs with the same spec. Either way, I've never been a fan of Sharp's PQ on their larger sets [colors look so washed out] and think the Toshiba's do look better this model year compared to the Sharps. But read the reviews. Black level performance is paramount! Not to scare you, but my friends Toshiba they purchased looks like junk... uneven backlighting and poor black levels. And thats a current year 42" LCD, at AV[S] the thread for calibration is all over the place because the TV had basically zero consistency when it was built. But it seems their mid-year refresh of their TVs has made them better, but again, read the reviews on THAT model. It might be a gem. Might be a dud.

It is definitely the Sharp LC-42D62U. I just double checked it on the unit itself.

In July of 2007 I paid $1500 (down from $1700) after making them price match.

On Consumer Reports, the 42" Sharp is rated at 75, the Toshiba 73 (Top rated set is the Samsung at 82 for 1400$). Never been an Aquos fan myself.

I have owned/used and tested equipment made by just about any manufacturer you can name.
