Hey, I'm trying to decide on a 46" LCD. I'm having trouble finding any direct comparisons between the LC46D85U and the LN46A650.
At a pro electronics store (that doesn't carry Samsung) a friend of a friend is highly recommending the Sharp...he said it has really good black levels, no more banding and great features.... Then I go to the big box stores and the instantly steer me away from the sharp towards anything Samsung. They say they're better but can't really explain why. Who do I trust? A friend of a friend in a pro electronics store, or a young kid at a big box store? I really like the Samsung LN46A650 but it's a few hundred $$'s more then the Sharp. Are there any impartial people on here who could help me decide? Thanks so much, -bryan Last edited by bjuurlink; 12-11-2008 at 09:24 PM. |

Sharp is very good were happy with the 46" (2008) model. I am not huge fan of Samsung products. I wish I could have got the 52" Sharp really huge and has more HDMI but the two I have and the 6 inputs is plenty for my equipment setup. They have 65" Sharp but that's pretty out my reach and plus got no where to place it. So if you like the Sharp it's a good deal.

Tough call. Both have 120mhz refresh, 4ms response, etc. You might just need to do some Googling for both of those model numbers and find some small difference that pushes your button. Like, the Sam has a USB slot, the Sharp doesn't. The Sam has automatic volume leveling, which keeps the volume in a certain range when unusually soft or loud commercials suddenly come on, that sort of thing. But both are top notch TVs.

Agree that both are top notch LCDs, but I think Samsung has the best LCD picture quality out there myself. Samsung has good support also, while Sharp is not so good (at least with my Sharp BD player). Samsung and Sharp has had various issues with their displays like any other mfg on certain models but they are both good brands overall.
If I was choosing I would choose the Samsung myself though.

I have owned a SHARP LCD before and loved it. But you'd have to look them both up online see the specs and then choose that way. If you cannot see them side by side in the store.

Just by pure looks and appeal, the SHARP wins my vote. In any event I would pick the SHARP over the SAMSUNG anyday. Just personal preference.

From the looks, I like the touch of red, easily over that silver band that would be distracting to me when watching a movie, etc.
I agree it is just personal preference and there is no wrong answer for what looks better. I am just disgusted with Sharp BD player "support", and would assume they are the same with their displays. They know nothing about their own BD products, and when proven wrong they said then don't believe us. How can THAT be considered good support if they do not even know the products they are there to provide support for?

I have yet to read any technical review that would put that Sharp before that Samsung. If I did not want the Samsung I would go for a Sony.
But if you are not too fussy any that meets your eye & budget should do.
