Default LCD TV Extended Warranty

Hi There,

I just bought a brand new Sony KDL-46W4150 for myself. The TV comes with 12 months of manufacturer warranty (labor & parts). Now since this is a pretty hefty investment. I was wondering it would be nice to secure it with a extended service contract.

I know this is a debatable topic and I didn't see any posts on it in this forum. So can somebody please suggest to-go for it or not.

And more so since I am more inclined towards going. Which companies to consider for the extended service warranty. I have done some research and Warrantech, DTV Express, Sony etc. looks good so far.

I greatly appreciate your responses, suggestions & feedback!

Thanks,

- G

Register your product to sony, you will be prompted for extended warranty by SONY it is very cheap comparing to other warranty, with lot of companies failing now a days i would suggest sony warranty is best and cheapest. according to PC world SONY was the best in quality of HD sets. You could decide to buy warranty just before original waranty expires.

You might also want to look at Mack Warranties available online for most any TV at much more reasonable prices.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Iserum - I guess I will try Sony warranty option when I register my product with Sony. It sounds really good option.

Loves2watch - I have heard bad feedback about Mack warranty; did you personally tried them? How was your experience?

More replies/ suggestions welcomed!

I have not had any problems when I made a claim at the beginning of this year.

Sony only because it's their product, if they actually service it and do not "farm" it out, or else Mack as stated by L2W

If you really want an extended warranty by all means buy one, but be aware it's just an insurance policy. On a good dependable product such as a Sony TV you will most likely never use it, that's how they make their money. I have never bought an extended warranty on anything and have never needed one, maybe I'm just lucky. I think by this time if I added up all the money I've saved by not buying extended warranties it would be more than enough to fix anything that fails including my car.

So if you choose not to buy one you can act as your own extended warranty company and you will almost certainly come out ahead in the long run.

I just ordered a new Panny plasma from Costco and they extend the 1 year manufacturers warranty to 2 years and it's included in their price. That's not the reason I bought it there but I'll admit it is nice to have an extra year tacked on. If you don't buy it you will probably save a bit of money; If you do buy it you will have a little more peace of mind, for a short time.

Great profit-makers, those warranties...for the longest time Sony had the cheapest of any manufacturer..I don't know if it's still that way.
Other swear by Mack or CPS but there are some horror stories, but there about anything, they are big and sell many.
Remember, Sony is offering the extension through an underwriter as a convenience. They don't personally handle any claims that are not due to recalls, etc.

No 'extension' warranty is free that I'm aware of...you have to get the Mack or CPS within 30 days of purchase. I think you can get the Sony anytime before the standard one expires.

Extended warranties are worthless and the biggest money maker for any company that sells them.

Put it this way, it does help people. However they are the biggest waste of money and the biggest money maker for any company that sells them. Most educated people know this.

It isn't personal opinion that they are the biggest waste of money or that they make the company that sells them all the money, it is FACT.
