Default Getting a new 32" LCD

Hello,

This holiday season im looking to buy a LCD TV. Most of the time that will be spent on it will be watching tv and playing Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 will probably be taking up most of the time. I have played my Xbox 360 on many tvs but i think this will be the first real sort of high end tv. Ive narrowed my choices down to either the Samsung 32" 1080 Flat-Panel LCD Model: LN32A550 or the Sharp-Aquos 32" 1080p Flat Panel LCD Model: LC-32GP2U. The price i have on these from Best Buy is 949.00 for the Samsung and 749.00 for the Sharp. Money is not too big of an object i just would not like to spend more than 1000 dollars for this tv. I have also not checked for any in store discounts. I will most likely be sitting 2-4 feet away from this tv while playing Xbox 360. (This tv is going in the bedroom by the way) So i was worried about ghosting and such, will any of these tvs experience that? Is there a better tv that i could get for 1000 or less? Which tv should i go with? Input would be helpful thanks.

If 32'' is all you are looking for the Sharp Aquos looks like a winner to me. Both are very nice LCD's, but Sharp for $749 onsale and $200 less is a much better deal IMO. The Aquos has a 6ms response time and the Sammy has 5ms. That is very good for both with a very slight edge to the Sammy. Go instore and take a look for yourself. At near a G note, you can find a nice 40'' if you wanted.

The biggest i need in my bedroom is probably a 32". So both would be just fine for gaming? No ghosting or anything? Does 1ms really matter? Would the difference from 2'-5' be visible for 1080p or 720 and would it be worth the extra money? Thanks again

At normal viewing distance with a 32'' I would say 1080p is not needed IMO. But since you plan on sitting only a couple feet away like a computer monitor when you game, 1080p would be a beniifit. Again, I think the Sharp Aquos for $749 is a much better deal and like the Sammy, a great 32'' TV. 1 other good point if you buy it a BB is take it home, hook up your 360 and give it a real work out with some fast action games like GOW2/CODWaW ect.. If you don't like it or think it is too laggy, take it back and give the Sammy or another model a go. I think you have 30 days from purchase and a 32'' would not be a biggie to box back up and return. My guess is that you will be quite pleased. That is the only true way to see for yourself.

oh and one more thing
does vyper drive or whatever help at all with the sharp? I am not really sure on if that would help or not. Also the contrast on the Sharp says 2000:1 static and 10000:1 dynamic. The samsung has 15000:1 dynamic. Does this make a whole lot of a difference?

and i saw an LG with 4ms response time and it looked nice. But i suppose it comes down to how they compare to each other. I am going to need to go into the store.

I have a Vizio 32" 1080p set model vo32lf and I like it very much. I was also looking at the Samsung LN32A550 $850-$950 before I bought this one for only $570. You can't beat that for a 1080p 32" panel.

Oh I also want to add that Vizio is an American brand. Something to consider if you prefer to support the US economy.

Excerpt From Vizio's Website:
"VIZIO, Inc. "Where Vision Meets Value," headquartered in Irvine, California, is America’s fastest-growing HDTV and consumer electronics company. In only a few short years, VIZIO quickly skyrocketed to the top by becoming the #1 selling brand of flat panel HDTV’s in North America and became the first American brand in over a decade to lead major categories in 2007 U.S. TV sales. VIZIO has sold more than 5-Million flat panel televisions in the U.S. alone. By listening intently to our customers and reacting to the ever-growing needs of flat panel television enthusiasts, VIZIO continues to offer feature-rich flat panel televisions and consumer electronics solutions to market at a value through practical innovation."

Does anyone know if there is a substantial difference between 8ms,6ms,5ms, or 4ms?

As I posted in another thread, it depends on HOW they measure it. Some measure the most accurate way, and some measure with the method that provides the lowest number for the spec.

I thought that too but I guess their panels are actually made by Amtran who makes them for LG as well.
