I've asked this question on the Cables & Connections forum but haven't received any responses yet so, thought I'd post it here since it involves my new Panny 50PZ80U.
I'm about to take delivery of my Panny 50PZ80U 1080P Plasma. I currently have a Sceintific Atalnta 8300HDDVR that does have an HDMI connector on the rear and I want to buy the Panny BD35 BD Player. My question deals with where to get the best audio from to assure I get good DD & DTS 5.1 surround. (even though I realize that I won't get the new enhanced audios until I upgrade my receiver) My receiver is an older Onkyo TSDX595 that is DD/DTS 5.1 but doesn't have HDMI. Hooking up both my HD DVR and my new BD player with HDMIs to the TV for video is a given but I'm unsure of where to get the audio for my receiver from. The HD DVR has a coaxial digital audio out connection, the Panny BD35 has an optical audio out, and the Panny 50PZ80U TV also has an optical digital audio out connection. So, which should I use for my audio to the receiver? I'd like to use the one from the TV since I could just leave the receiver in the same input mode but is it a quality connection, I wonder? |

Just hook each device up to the receiver via Digital coax for the STB, and optical for the BD player. Once you get a HDMI receiver you just run everything to the receiver and one HDMI output to the TV.
