Hi all,
I could use your opinion on something - I've been reviewing all the Black Friday deals, and I'm wondering which TV you all think are the best. The two I've narrowed it down between is the Samsung LN32A300 (on sale for $499 just about EVERYWHERE) and the Toshiba 32AV500U (for $450) They seem to be the best 2 that are on sale. I'm guessing there's a consensus that the cheap ones are not any good (Dynex at Best Buy, Emerson at WalMart, AOC at Radio Shack, and Element at Office Depot, and Sceptre at CompUSA -399 this weekend). If I'm wrong about those being poor sets, let me know. Any one know of any other sub$500 tvs I should consider? I know WalMart has a few at regular prices (and one I think is a Vizio). Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum!
![]() Both the Samsung and Toshiba LCDs are good choices versus many of the tier 3 brands you mentioned. I would go check them both out in a store and see which YOUR EYES thinks is better. Make sure you adjust both to look the best they can look to do a fair comparison. Also make sure you do not use the VIVID mode on either and look for a CINEMA mode to start off with. Hope this helps!

In stores its so tough to notice; between the lighting and everything. It also doesn't help that both sets have been pulled off shelves pre-Black Friday - I can't find either anywhere at the moment.
Anyone seen both of these sets? Like either? Anyone think I should be considering the cheap sets? |

Hey, also just noticed that Best Buy has the Sharp TV LC-32SB220U on sale for 499 - any thoughts on this one? I'd be willing to grab it this weekend if it's better than the Samsung/Toshiba?

Hi Buddy.
While I don't know if you are into shopping online from Home Shopping channels, I do see a nice lil deal that could wet your whistle.. It's a Magnavox 32" for $569, easy to pay off in 4 installments of $142 a month...http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/v...TVwgital-Tuner I was going rto get this a long time go when they had it for $628. Maybe this could work for you and you can do more with the rest of your money... Brand name TV, nice 4 month payment system...I'd go for it! JE |

Those time payments are really costing a hell of a lot of unstated interest and for a lesser brand to boot.

If that's the case in brand names, he should be getting himself a SONY!!!!!! This is the Beast of the the BEST! Look @ Sharp...brand name.. had/have plenty of people with Banding problems. Not to mention the problems that Samsungs had/have. So think outside the box for a minute. I see nothing wrong with Magnavox! I think the payment plans are a good deal. Maybe not for you, because you have the hard cash to clump down, but not him. It's a better deal for him. Many of these online tv shopping places are offering flexpays, value pays for tv's this season and for people who just don't have the hard money, I think it's a steal to do it. But alas, people will go with what the majority tells them to do. JE Last edited by LooKn4Friendz; 11-21-2008 at 06:27 PM. |

Actually, I've compared the Magnavox's and I don't think they hold up to Toshiba or Samsung (or LG or Sony).
Yes, Sony is great, but too much money! And that Magnavox is more expensive; payment plan or not, I'd rather pay less. What do you think of the Vizio's? They are cheaper but I've seen positive reviews - do they stack up against the bigger brands? Any opinions? I'd be open to getting the VW32L they have at WalMart (499) but I'm not sure if it truly compares... |

And to really stir the pot and get some opinions, I notice there is a Vizio Plasma TV at Walmart that costs less than $500 - What are your thoughts on Plasmas? (I guess some comes down to people's feelings on Vizio). I know there are some advantages to plasmas, but do LCD's advantages outweigh them?
Am I asking way too many questions about too many different topics under one thread? I'm just trying to get the best value for my less than $500 money

WaterOz I'm currently deciding between the vizio plasma and the Toshiba u stated at the beginning of your thread. im leaning towards the vizio because since its plasma it will have better black levels also the toshiba looks way fatter then the vizio.

![]() Think about it. If you have to pay 42% more for a MUCH lesser brand just to get payments over 6 months then you are likely paying well over 50% more when you add the "normally" lower cost of the Magnavox over Samsung or Toshiba brands. That would be equal to a 100% as an annual interest rate. So tell me. If Best Buy offered you the Magnovox for $280.00 but told you the interest rate was 100% would you STILL think it was a good deal? Because that is what that deal you linked to is the equivalent of. Magnavox is not made by Magnavox, but rather by the mfg named Funai. It is a Japanese company that has all products made in China and is a lower end tier 3 brand. This is not your grandfathers Magnavox but rather a company that bought the name only. Ditto for Sylvania, etc etc.

Alright, I decided to go with the Toshiba - and the slightly upgraded version at that because I discovered it at Amazon.com for just 17 dollars more (which means no waiting in long lines overnight at Circuit City). And for me, because I live in Florida, it actually ends up being $10 less (because the Circuit City deal would be about $477 after taxes - no tax at Amazon.com)
If you want to see the Amazon.com deal on the Toshiba 32AV502U, visit this link: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-32AV50...7389383&sr=1-1 |
