Default Panasonic Viera 50" 720p TH-50PE8U

I have seen this tv in an AD from Bestbuy but when I searched it in google, it returned 0 results.

I looked into the Panasonic's Website and couldn't find this exact model either (TH-50PE8U). I was wondering if anybody is owning this TV or is it simply a misprint on the ad.

The closest thing I could find in the panasonic website was this:
http://panasonic.com/consumer-electr...00000000005702

50PX80U is ALOT different than 50PE8U but it does looks similar at a glance. What are your thoughts?

That model is a special model for the discount warehouse stores. It will likely only be at Costco, Sams Club, BJ's Wholesale Club, etc.

It is likely the equivalent to the 50px80u that the major chains carry, but check the specs/features for both as they usually have different feature sets also. Be sure to check the number of HDMI inputs etc.

PFC5, actually it's one of our "holday skus" meaning it's a temporary production run made specifically for the holiday sales (ie, Black Friday).

Yep, expect a few less inputs, but the basics are the same.

Default Just Both the Panasonic Th-50PE8U

I was going to Best Buy because they had a 50in 720p Insignia plasma on sale for like $800. The guy working there told me he had a new panasonic in the back that wasn't even released to the public yet. It is a great tv and the picture quality is better than almost every tv they had there even the 1080p

The PE8U model will be a discount version of the entry-level PX80U series. It will only look better than the 1080p models to a small percentage of people but i bet most people who know what they're looking at will be able to tell that the various 1080p Pannys look better.

A few years ago they came out with a PE6U which was the discount Black Friday version of the PX60U and it was nothing special.

Panasonic's telephone Tech Support could not provide any information on this model.

In addition to only having 2 HDMI inputs, the Native Contrast Resolution is 10,000 : 1 compared with 15,000 : 1 on the TH-50PX80U. I question if this model has any other specification differences.

I think its a 75px in a 80px bezel. The 75 also had 10k : 1 CR and 2 hdmi inputs like the black friday special at BB. If that is the case, its not a bad deal, $900 for a TH-50PX75U.

There's confusion on a misprint in the BB.com website.

This panel is 1366x768...NOT 1024x768 that it says online.

So do you think the average person can see any difference between the contrast resolution 10,000:1 compared to the 15,000:1 models? 10,000:1 is already quite high, isn't it?

Red face Th-50pe8u

Just got one at BB on 11/30/08 in NC for $899.00. Two of my friends also got one. I will post a review after I get it installed and see how it looks.

I bought the set with out even looking at it. I needed to replace a 6 year old rear projection HD Hitachi (CLU-4321UG). We are moving into a new home soon and this set will then be placed on a bedroom wall. The $899 price is what sold me and yes I see 2 HDMI.

I snatched up the TH-50PE8U on Black Friday and felt pretty lucky...it was 1 of 20 available at the local BB. And, to be perfectly honest, I didn't research carefully enough, and thought I was buying the TH-50PX80U.

Now, I see that that the TH-50PE8U is available online at Best Buy for the same price...shipped to my door, no less. (Not feeling so lucky anymore.) And of course, I'm now discovering that it's not the set I thought I was getting...2 HDMI inputs instead of 3, lower contrast, etc. And, I'm seeing that the TH-50PX80U is available at places like newegg for roughly the same $960 (after tax) I paid at the local BB for the stripped down version.

I haven't even picked it up from BB yet. So the choices are to:

1) Keep the Black Friday set

2) Return the Black Friday set and snatch up the TH-50PX80U online for the same price

3) Return the Black Friday set and hang out until prices drop again after Christmas/Super Bowl. I'm really in no rush.

4) Or? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
