Default Dead pixels

Hey guys,

So about a month ago, on Oct 4th, i bought a panny 42pz80u. Last night i noticed a dead pixel in the center of the screen.

I bought it at sears with no warranty. On the receipt, it says i have a 90 day satisfaction blah blah. You can't see the dead pixel from my viewing range, but it's there and that fact alone bothers me.

Do you think they would take back the TV because of a dead pixel? I would think this would be a huge deal to some people. If they don't take it back, if i bought a warranty from Mack, would they be able to do something about the dead pixel?

Do many displays encounter a dead pixel in their lifetime? is this normal? I've had my LCD monitor for years with no problems, and i thought dead pixels were less of an issue with plasmas, but low and behold.

What's the experienced forum users think? Does anyone have experience dealing with Sears and their return policy?

Any pixel based tech CAN have dead pixels and usually LCDs have more than plasmas but you never know. You just got "lucky".

Most mfg and stores have dead pixel policies as to what are "exceptable" dead pixels (to the mfg not us consumers who expect zero), and the location of the dead pixel is also factored in. Being in the center might carry more weight to be able to exchange it than if it was near the edge.

Have you tried unplugging the display for an hour and then trying it again? Sometimes pixels just get "stuck" and un-stick over time or by unplugging it for a while. Is the pixel dead (black at all times) or is just a sub-pixel stuck on a color other than black?

Hope this helps!

You could also download a "stuck pixel fixer." It's basically a bunch of flashing colors for a series of minutes. I don't know if they really work, but I have seen them. I even have the video in my iTunes library.

If you don't notice it, then in my opinion it isn't a problem. You might be ABLE to exchange it, being that it is in the center of the screen. But, as it is not indicative of any further problems, and that you don't notice it when viewing tv, I'd accept it.

WTF? He has obviously noticed it or he wouldn't have started a thread. Geezus! Here we go again. You have a warranty. Use it.

I'm gonna try this... hopefully i can find one of those videos when i get home from work. If not i'll try exercising my warranty rights!
And it's in the middle of the screen width wise but near the bottom, like 3 or 4 inches above the panasonic label.

Have them replace the panel if you can see it and it bothers you.. They won't replace the set unless you just got it today...

I have NEVER heard of a panel being replaced. The cost is too great and they end up just replacing the unit when under warranty from EVERYTHING I ever heard about both LCD & plasmas.

What I clearly stated was my opinion, so your outburst is simply uncalled for.

1- Unplug for 1 hour. If the dead/stuck pixel is still there then 2- perform a whitewash of the screen (look at the owner's manual to see how to do that).

If the pixel is still stuck, then take a picture of the stuck pixel and contact Panasonic Concierge via Panny's website.

Would you re-read your post. It is obvious that it bothers him. My "outburst" was well deserved.

Are you kidding me? I'm not getting pulled into reread this reread that argument.

To the original poster : Let us know what you decide, and the outcome! Very curious as to how Sears or Panasonic handles it (just in case I ever need to return my tv).

Smart. Glad you don't need to be reminded how wrong you were. Good job.
