Default Sharp Aquos - shuts off by itself

My in-laws have about a 50" Sharp LCD that is about 3 years old.

They called me the other night and said that when they turn the TV on it starts up and then shuts itself off after a period of time. They said 10 seconds but are prone to exageration. As I seem to be the designated Mr. Fix-it they want me to come over and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

I have solved many of their other problems which are mostly due to hitting the wrong buttons or selecting the wrong thing with the wrong remote etc. You get the idea.

I have never come across this particular problem before, anyone got any ideas.

I was thinking maybe some sort of hi-temp shut off or sleep control setting incorrect.

Voltage regulator (power supply) Replace that.. Or have a tech come out and test it. Some might say try a different AC outlet or surge strip instead.

Sharp HD; Had the same problem but solved it.
After 5 sec, screen and sound shut off without any error message; just shut down…
Power & OPC led lights would blink individually and together in a 30 sec pattern.
After unplugging; I removed rear panel and found one of the two cooling fans jammed with lint. I removed fans from mounting and thoroughly cleaned BOTH SIDES with a dry Q-Tip and reinstalled.
My power-downs occurred first-thing AM, so I don’t believe the TV was overheating. Sharp must have sensors to detect whether the fans are operational.
When you have rear panel removed be certain to
 Thoroughly vacuum
 Inspect tubular glass fuses to ensure all have un-melted wire
 Look for any charred connections for short-outs
 Press-on wire harnesses to ensure all are fully inserted
Best-of-luck!
