Anyone has this tv? When connected via HDMI, there is about a 3-4 second sound delay when changing channels. I have tried different HDMI versions and the 4 HDMI inputs on the tv but same thing. I get instantaneous sound and picture when changing channels and connected via components. Anyone experiencing this behaviour? TIA.

I assume you are not saying that the sound is out of sync with the video but they both have the same delay.
The reason for this is that with HDMI there copy protection built into the HDMI spec. It is called HDCP and when you change the channel, the source device 7 display must renegotiate what is called the HDCP handshake. Some TVs handle this better/faster than others, but most have at least a 1 second delay for the handshake to be negotiated. Component does not have this copy protection, as it is analog and not digital, so it is naturally faster. You will still get some delay on all displays even with component sometimes when the resolution of the source changes (i.e. Change from a 1080i channel to a 720p channel, or to 480). Again, some TVs handle this resolution switching faster than others also. I find that with my cable service and a Scientific Atlanta 4250HD STB, I see barely ANY difference between HDMI & component, but others swear there is a big difference. I think it depends on the HD service you have and the equipment you iuse, as well as what make/model display you have because some HDTVs cut corners on the other connections compared to the HDMI inputs which is becoming necessary for most content. Hope this helps!

Try using the component connection and running the audio into the display from the STB separately, and see if it improves this issue. If you channel surf a lot, this would likely be the preferred way to connect your STB, so you can bypass what I believe to be an inherent flaw in the HDCP copy protection design of HDMI inputs. STB at this point do not require HDMI like upscalers or HD players so you really do not lose anything by going with component compared to HDMI but get this reduction in channel surfing delays. Just make sure you calibrate the component input as most displays have separate settings memory for each input. ![]() Hope this helps!
