Default Sanyo DP42647 not picking up digital channels?

Hi all,

I purchased this 42" Sanyo at Wally World about 6 months ago. Our town has just added some digital channels to the basic cable lineup, so I decided to try and pick them up. When I go into the channel scan menu, the tv will do the analog scan, find all of the analog channels, do the digital scan, and find nothing.

The tv will pick up a local channel in digital, when connected to an OTA antenna, so that leads me to believe the digital tuner is functioning.

I have tried another tv on the same cable line, and it picks up the digital channels without issue.

Has anyone else run into problems with the Sanyos not picking up digital cable signals? Do you think the problem could be remedied with something as simple as a signal booster?

Thanks for any help.

TJ

Do you know for sure that it has a digital QAM tuner? The ATSC digital tuner is for OTA only and you also need a built in digital QAM tuner for digital cable. Being less than a year old I would assume it does, but you need to make sure. If it does, check the setup menu/manual to see if you need to do anything to activate the QAM tuner. No signal booster should be needed at all. Could just be your QAM tuner is bad if you have 1.

I just looked up your TV's model on the Wally web site.. According to it, your TV does NOT have a digital QAM tuner. Only an analog NTSC and digital ATSC for OTA.. Pretty strange as they are for the most part standard in newer models.

"Built-in ATSC digital/NTSC analog tuner
Receives conventional analog broadcasts and digital broadcasts, including HDTV programs where available "

But that does not mean the Wall site is correct. Check you manual or call Sanyo to verify if this is the case.

Edit: I checked your TV's manual and it does state that you DO HAVE a QAM tuner. So forget about way I said above.

It does state in the manual that "You must search for ClearQAM channels using the Digital Cable Search in the menu option. Do Not use the "ALL Channel Search" for QAM..So if you are not doing that and just a digital search, your are only going OTA. If you are doing this, you may have an issue with your QAM tuner..

See page 32 of your manual.

Thanks for your quick response. I should have mentioned I couldn't get the digital cable search to work, the menu option said not available.

I just got it figured out though, after the last analog channel, there's a D03-1 channel. The digital channel search is unlocked from that channel only, I must not have seen that in the manual, or perhaps it doesn't clearly state that, I'll have to look.

Once again, I appreciate your quick response even though you're a Sox fan!!!

My family's all from the Northwest side, so I bleed Cubbie blue.

Thanks,

TJ
