Default Plasma wall mounting height

In preparation to mount my 60" Elite plasma on the wall, what would be appropriate height above ground to mount on the wall. I am thinking of about 36" or 37" off the ground and the viewing distance is at least 11 feet on a couch. The Elite 60" plasma height is 34.5". The top of the plasma will be 70.5" or 71.5".

I currently have a 50" rear-projected Elite and the screen is about 21" off the ground. Is it true that the heights above ground for wall mounted and rear-projected units are different? My thinking is the height for wall mounted unit should be higher but not so high that would break your neck. I heard folks that have their units mounted above fireplace and their complaints was stiff neck.

Any suggestion would greatly appreciated.

Try cutting out a piece of paper the size of the screen and test it in various positions you MAY be watching it from to find the best height. If you have recliners make sure you can see the whole screen without propping up your head, and the same if lying down on the couch. Also consider if you will have people over and watching it in the standing position too.

You will likely want some middle position for both standing and lying down, but I would say make sure the center is about 4-5 feet off the ground.

Hope this helps!

I would personally try and have the set at about eye level if possible.

But eye level when sitting, reclined, or standing?

Heh ok, eye level in your main seating area, probably sitting. That would be up to the individual though, as they could be lying down also.

you dont watch tv standing up, so you cant worry about that, i have my 50 set at about just above eye level and im about 6'1 so most people i know are shorter than me which makes it great for everyone

you wont be disappointed at that level, ,measure to where you eye level is sitting on the couch/ chair, whatever you will be witting on

I went through this same thing when I was getting ready to hang my plasma. I would say the center of mine is pretty much at sitting eye level as well. I had to make sure I had room for my center channel and audio equipment underneath also. Check your mount. Both of the mounts I have allow for quite a bit of vertical adjustment after the wall plate is hung.

The Rule of thumb that I have lived by is traditionally 36" to 40" off the floor. However, if you are watching it in your bedroom, you want it to be level with your eye while reclined in your bed, so make those adjustments as needed. The idea of making a cutout and placing it on your wall is a VERY good one, and I would definitely go for it (if for no other reason to kill time before my Elite gets here lol).
