Default Setting up Viera Cast on 50pz850

I don't have this baby, yet, but I am interested in knowing how to set up the internet connection for teh Viera Cast. I know that you need an ethernet connection. So, I guess this means you have to have a modem and a phone line nearby...right?

Try this link and open the "How-To's and Tutorials" menu:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...el.TH-50PZ850U

I say "try" because when I did they weren't working consistently. When they do, they hopefully will answer all your questions and more.

You would need a broadband connection not a dial up phone connection to the internet I would think.

That is correct, a broadband connection is required.

Default I'm there

I've got a 850u with the rj-45 jack.

As suggested here I bought a Linksys WGA54G wireless game adapter to connect with my wireless router. Had problem setting up the adapter to connect to router.

If you are using a wireless network these suggestions should help.

The game adapter only uses WEP security. Therefore you will have to set your wireless router security to use WEP, 64 bit, 10 key digit. Do not touch the 'set passphase' button. Enter a 10 character code (0-9, a-e) in any combination in the 'KEY 1' box. Write the code down. and the hit the save button. If you're on a wireless connected laptop you will be disconnected from the internet. You'll have to reestablish a connection to the router and wil be required to use the 10 digit code (twice) to reestablish a wireless connection to the router. This is done by searching for available wireless networks and supplying the 10 digit code when connecting.

With your adapter directly connected with the router. Open a web browser and type in 192.168.1.250 in the URL. This should bring up the adapter setup page. Scroll down on the setup page to find your network. Click it and then hit the connect button. You should see a 'connected' in the status line. Then click the apply button on the bottom. In the advanced sub page make sure the gateway is set to 192.168.1.1 and click apply.

Hook the adapter to your TV and plug it in. Make sure the wireless G light is on.

Open up the Panasonic menu and go to the network settings. Use the automatic setting and test the connection. You should get a 'succeeded'. If of then go to the VieraCast setting and test the connection. If you get a 'succeeded' you're ready to go.

First thing to do afterwards is scroll down to updates in the network settings and update to latest software.

HTH.
