Default looking for a lcd or plasma under $1900

Been googling around for a while and I figured that I need to ask for some expert advice from a forum. Looking for a tv set less than 1900 dollars. doesn't matter if it's a lcd or plasma. will be using the tv for basic tv channels, satellite (not HD), blu ray movies, dvd movies, and PS3 games. want the latest hardware, top notch quality and colors for the price that I listed. needs to be 1080p. if lcd, i want the120hz. size for plasma or lcd: 40-50. manufacturer doesn't matter.

lightening isn't an issue for our house. Have curtains for all the windows if glare is a problem. should I stick w/ plasma or go w/ LCD? i know everyone has mixed reviews. this won't be hooked up to a computer.

been looking at Samsung PN50A550 50-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV on amazon. seen nice reviews (cnet and other sites) on this tv for about $1849.

panasonic has the vierra 42-46 plasmas. Panasonic - 42" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV TH-42PZ85U or TH-42PZ85U.

any lcds w/ 120 hz or should i stay w/ the plasma w/ the budget i have? lcds w/ 120 hz are so dang expensive. saw the samsung LN46A650 or LN 40A650.

anyways, appreciate it for any comments or suggestions. thanks a million.

Red out

Stay with the Panasonics and look at their 50" models. Panasonic has a much, much better service record than any Samsung product and are always rated tops by professional reviewers.

I just bought a 50 inch 1080p panasonic off of amazon.com. I'm setting it up on saturday, but I feel like I got a great deal-the reviews for it have been great! Model number TH-50PZ77U

Check auctions at samsclub-- some deals to be had panny 50 pe700 and some samsungs and phillips there also.. Appear to be 07 models... Closeouts? If that is somethhing you would consider.

Good luck

I agree the Pannys are great, and I know they are rated well
Do you have a link to a survey or the like - to back up the claim that Samsungs are not as reliable, or is this from personal experience or opinion?
Such a link or source surely would give reliability insight for many brands, if not all - and would be helpful in deciding to choose a set.

This is from personal experience working with all of the local electronics retailers (higher return rate than any other tier 1 brand) and seeing the amount of complaints on this forum where Samsung service issues far outweigh any other brand.

Read article on here that says sony wants their share of the lcd market back so anyday now they are dropping prices dramatically and the other brands are expected to follow suit

wait a couple weeks, look at the lcd's from sony...for gaming wouldnt an lcd be better than plasma due to lcd being brighter?

either way you cant go wrong

Not necessarily, I like gaming on my plasma better than on my LCD but I believe it is personal preference. Plasma TV's don't have any lag (response) time associated with LCD TV's.
