Default I pulled the trigger! Standby mode?

I finally found the right TV for me. Actually, the right price for me. I saw the philips 47PFL7422D 47", 1080p factory renewed for only $750 at the philips outlet and I couldn't resist. From what I've seen on cnet, this TV looks good. Anyone else have any experience with this TV?

The main question I had was about standby mode. Will this shorten the life of the TV? Will it last longer if I switch off the power strip every time the TV is off?

My brother in law has this model and I was pretty impressed with the PQ except with SD signals which it does not do so well with. HD sources look great though and the black levels are pretty good for an LCD panel.

I would suggest that you do NOT turn off the power strip it is connected to though. Standby mode on most displays also is how your settings are saved and kept active, so if you shut off all power to the display, there will be no juice to save the settings for an extended period of time between the times you might turn it on.

Hope this helps!
