First Post here. I appreciate any help you can provide me on this issue. I purchased a Sylvania 37 LCD TV about 1.5 years ago. About
6-8 months into the purchase I noticed a line of dead pixels running from right to left on the screen. The line is about half way up the screen on the right and goes about 4/5ths the way across the screen. The last 5 or 6 pixels flash on an off similar to the lights on an eqaulizer. Anyway, when i first noticed it, I called Sylvania and asked about repairs/warranty and was told it's past the 90day warranty so the parts are covered for up to 2 years and the labor is on me. So based on that, I decided to wait until I got closer to the 2 year mark incase something else happened, It would only have to get opened up once. Anyway, I call back and I am told 1 year parts 1 year labor. I didn't like that. I call a local repair shop and explain the problem and ask if they have heard of this before with the line of dead pixels. The guy tells me it's $99.00 to have it looked at and if it can be fixed, they take the $99.00 and apply it to the bill. I asked again if they have seen anything like this before and the guy tells me to hold on and then another guy gets on the phone. He goes through the spiel of $99.00 and I ask him if he has seen anything like this as I want to get an idea of a possible repair prior to giving them money. He says no I can't say that I have. He then asks me how much I paid for it and I said what does that have to do with anything. He said I just want to help you decide if you should just buy a new TV. I said I can figure that out for myslelf. So here I am. Shouldn't they know if they can fix a line of dead pixels or not if they are an authorized Sylvania repair shop?? So is this line able to be repaired? Thanks |

it sounds like my stupid laptop computer screen....
i have to bump the top right corner of the frame on the screen to get all of the screen to display...... So, may i suggest.... if I were you.... to TAP the vertical edge of the frame (not the screen itself) the then the top or bottom edge of the frame (whichever is closer to the bad pixels).... Sometimes it is just a crappy connection somewhere internally within the screen display or the connections to the screen display and..... by tapping it you MAY RESTORE the pixels with a positvie connection again. Don't sue me if it doesn't work. I'd be highly angered with such TV myself... i understand your legitimate feelings. It flat sucks to be stuck with a Lemon. Not to be a bragger, but that is ONE reason (among many) WHY i bought a Sony.... for their quality. I'll fork-out a bit more for the engineered and supervised quality of the device. Good luck. I'd use the handle of a screwdriver and start tapping.... IF I were you.... |

To the original poster, contact Sylvania and see what they have to say. Did you buy an extended warranty or use a credit card (which in many cases doubles the original manufacturers warranty)? If so, contact your credit card company and explain the situation and let them take it from there but please check out these options and DO NOT bang on your TV as it may void the warranty completely.

I hope i'm misunderstanding you, because I don't know anyone that would have waited a year to deal with such a serious issue. I'm not trying to sound too harsh but at this point you are SOL. You allowed the warranty to run out and now you have a tv that is un-repairable (barring any miracles).

He's asking you because the panel would have to be replaced! Funai gives you 2 years on the panel for replacement. So you still could get it replaced since it's not quite 2 years yet. The labor rate they quote you is cheaper than my area. I have to shell out $105 but that was back in 2006. I wanted to see it it was worth getting the extra protection from Wal-Mart for $58 bucks. So we did. The second Funai doesn't have extra protection. Since Funai will replace the panel with no questions ask under the 2007 agreement policy. Which model you have is it silver/grey or black? Did you get that from Kmart, Sears or Circuit City? Could you take a close-up picture of this problem. I can past it on to a repair tech and see what he saids? But if it what I think it is then the panel would have to be replaced. |

It's a circuit board problem, most likely. You either need to get it fixed, get a new TV, or live with it.

I've ran into these many times, 95% of the time it is a board issue of some sort, hence the "most likely."
Any ideas on your end of what it could be? |
