Great deal on PDP-Pioneer 5080HD

For anyone looking at this tv, amazon has it for $1999, but the shipping is $265. I learned that BB had this set on sale a month ago for the same price, but their current price is $2500. I went in to my local BB and said "Hey, you guys were selling this a month ago for $1999, Amazon has it for that now. Will you price match?" The answer after I got to the second salesman (the first one was a jerk) was "Sure we can do that." Sales tax was a sweet hundred dollar bill less than shipping from amazon.

Never hurts to ask! Can't wait to pick it up today.

The 5080 is one of the best plasma TVs available. At the prices they can be bought for now is almost like robbery. They consistently outperform all those 1080p "thingies".... hehehehehehe

Good for you, welcome to the Pio club. Get ready to enjoy the best contrast ratio and black-level performance of any flat-panel sets out there.

I was scared to read your post, since I just bought mine a few weeks ago, but your price was pretty close to mine (off Amazon), so I'm not feeling blue.

I can't sing the praises of the Pio high enough. It's just a beautiful pic, and I think changes the entire discussion of 1080p.

It sure does.... nothing wrong with 1080p and at some larger screen sizes or if you sit close then it certainly has merits. But, as always, resolution is ONLY one piece of the picture quality puzzle. I will take 768p and killer Contrast ratios over 1080p and shaky Contrast EVERY TIME.

I dont care if you have a 2160p TV.... if the contrast sucks or the blacks are purple, the TV looks like crap. Period.

If you are actually able to take delivery of that 5080 today and at that price you are one lucky guy. Pio has discontinued production of all non-1080p sets, including the 5080. As of a week ago, Pio only had aprox. 100 left in inventory and I suspect they're gone by now.

Retailers are rapidly selling out what little supply is in the field, due to both the discontinuation of production and the fact that orders for Pio's 110FD and 150FD are running ahead of production capacity.

Picked it up today and ....

Sorry, I'm speechless. I am extremely happy .... (Sorry speechless again) with my new TV.

I'm now involved in a love triangle with a girl named "plasma" and her sister HD!!! I think my wife is on to me too!
