Default Samsung LT-P468W LCD

This is the unit that I have concluded I should purchase.

I originally considered Plasma, but after further research choose to go the LCD route.

The only negitive I could find about this unit is the contrast ratio is 800:1.

I'm leaving it up to this forum to pick it apart and find weeknesses.

Talking Excellent choice

Place your order now so it gets to you faster !!!

I have the LTN-406W and I aboslutely love it. The wallet was not "fat-nuff" for the 46 incher and thats the only reason I didn't get that one.
I paired mine up with the Denon2910 player.

Welcome to the world LCD TV for fantastic viewing and spectacular PQ.

Samsung has bridged the gap from plasma to LCD with these two sets and they are engineering marvels.

Regards ...

As a fellow owner of a Samsung LTN406W , I concur wholeheartedly with TMMerlin. Lucky you that you have $8K burning a hole in your pocket! Can't go wrong with that set.

I wouldn't worry about the contrast ratio, there's no industry baseline by which those ratios are comparable anyways. It's up to each manufacturer to rate their own sets. They all use their own measuring stick.

The biggest negatives you'll hear about LCD are:

1) Black levels. IMO, this is overrated. Are the black levels comparible to those on a CRT? No. Are the blacks so grey that they don't look believably black? No. I wouldn't be concerned with black levels.

2) SD looks poor. Definitely not the case with the Samsung 40" and I would imagine that would carry over to the 46". SD actually looks decent on my set. Is it as nice as it would look on a CRT, no, but again it's an overrated criticism -- at least for the high-end Samsungs.

As it seems you've already determined, LCD positives far outweight the negatives. Enjoy your set!

How good SDTV looks has more to do with your tuner & it's upconversion chip... this is an issue that really is display technology independent.

The first of two main issues with LCD I'd suggest checking critcally are black levels. Use you own eyes with a dark themed movie... the other is 'smear', speed of the LCD to refresh. Slow refresh will leave 'tails' behind fast moving objects. View fast 720p football. Early LCDs couldn't handle a 60 Hz refresh, since their refresh rate was about 25 ms. (40 fps). They presented 720p at only 30 Hz. For a 60 Hz refresh you need a pixel refresh rate of at least 16 ms. (1000/60). Best LCDs today offer a refresh of 12 or even 8 ms.
