Default 3K for a Samsung and the $700 Visio looks better?

Year and a half ago I got a 46" Samsung LNS4692D almost $3000.00. Pictures using HDMI suck. Ghosting of black images, color distortion (bleeding?) and slow reaction to fast images on specific programs.

Why the heck does the 37" much cheaper (sub $800.00) Visio look better? Black is black, no ghosting and overall better picture.

The Visio uses component connection. The Samsung with HDMI (yes good cables).

Any ideas. LNS4692D

20 Days Incredible TV at Incredible Price
Strengths: Picture quality on both HDTV and standard TV; design; light weight; no problems with viewing angles
Weaknesses: None - honestly!
Summary: After over a year of researching HDTV's and weekly visits to BestBuy, Circuit City, and countless online websites, my husband and I finally decided on this one. Wow, was the research and the wait well worth it! This flat-panel LCD TV is incredible.

One of our concerns was the picture quality when watching standard TV, but standard TV on this set is just as good if not better than on standard picture tube TV sets.

This TV has no troubles with viewing angles. Our family room is small, so we sit about 10ft from the TV, which works.

The speakers work well, but leave a little bit to be desired in terms of sound quality. To be fair to the TV, the speakers are the same as any other TV but when watching HDTV, especially movies, high-quality sound is expected.

2 Weeks Great LCD TV!
Strengths: Lots of inputs; removeable stand; ready to mount sockets; decent remote
Weaknesses: No cable-card
Summary: I was looking for a "budget" large-screen TV, and this fit my requirements. I didn't want cheap, I wanted a good brand-name, and a great picture. I also wanted the thing to "look" nice, as in aethestics. I was going to mount it on the wall, but would initially use the stand. Ideally i would have gotten the 1080p version (LN-S4695D), but the $500+ cost difference could not be justified (by me!). I have been extremely happy. Out of the box, it worked great. Stand provided enough swivel to reach the room. After about two weeks, I mounted it to my wall with a cheapie ($30) wall mount kit, and it worked fantastic!! All the screw holes fit perfectly! Don't waste money on some fancy brand name mount, as they are all pretty much the same. I love the HDMI inputs, as that is all I use to connect to it. Picture is great, and the remote and on-screen displays are helpful. I thought the manual was so-so, but it is passable. Highly recommended! Oh, I would have liked a cable-card for future use, but that was not available. You would need the LN-S4696D for that feature, but it also comes with 1080p at a higher price.

20 Days Excellent HDTV for the price
Strengths: Very nice hdtv picture. Menu is easy going.
Weaknesses: No USB, flash drive slot, Cablecard, IR interference.
Summary: The HDTV picture is excellent for 720p and 1080i. The SD image is also nice. The contrast of colors white and blacks is very good. The audio quality is very nice for 20W speaker system. I did not find much difference for the picture quality between Samsung 1080p model with this. I have watched couple of HD games on this TV and motion is pretty smooth. If you have good cables and a good signal strength, this TV is a good choice. I like the Samsung's image modes which has setting for movies, standard room, brightness etc. Also you have an energy saving option to set the correct option for brightness. I have put the TV in a room with lots of sunlight and this TV shows images without any glare even with lot of sunlight.

I am having issues with my SD satellite receiver remote with this TV. The remote does not work due to IR inteference unless you put the settop box aside. Also it

does not have a USB and cablecard though it has a PC input.

I would recommend this TV as the prices are falling for this model.

Reviews Great picture
Strengths: Picture, connections, HD Tuner
Weaknesses: Sound
Summary: I was looking specifically at LCD flat panels due to ambient light in my room. This TV fit the bill. I got a great deal on it so bought it. Was going for 40" but figured it would be too small for my room.

Picture is outstanding. HD Signals come through perfect. Even SD signals are better than my 51" Rear projection HDTV.

Only con is the sound is substandard, but no one uses the sound on these TV's anyways.

14 Days LN-S4692D LCD Flat Panel
Strengths: Looks, picture, ease of use.
Weaknesses: None thus far.
Summary: "Bought this set about 2 weeks ago and couldn't be more pleased. This replaces a Zenith LCD 44 inch. I am hooked up to digital cable with High Definition, using HDMI. Everyone is blown away by the clarity and color. Expensive, but if you can afford it you won't be disappointed. Controls are simple - It is simply a great TV. Oh yeah, the cabinet looks very cool too. "

10 Days Samsung LN-S4692D 46
Strengths: Very sharp, bright picture. Good quality even on SD reception.
Weaknesses: Remote won't control DirecTV box.
Summary: This set is awesome! The picture is among the best I have seen at retail locations. Even in a bright room, the picture is very visible. Viewing angle is close to 180 degrees. Off-air reception is very high quality in HD mode.

Reviews Great LCD TV
Strengths: contrast ratio, 2 HDMI input. Digital audio out, swivel stand
Weaknesses: Haven't found yet
Summary: As I live in high altitude I ruled out plasmas and was considering only flat panel LCDs of size close to 46". Considered Sony, Sharp and Samsung and finally settled on Samsung. I liked the look and constrast compared to the otther two. Set up was simple and initially with my table top antena I could receive many off the air HDTV with good quality picture. Now with DishHD I am enjoying it very much.

Reviews Samsung 46" High Contrast LCD HDTV
Strengths: Beautiful picture and appearance. One of the best and crispest pictures of the large screen TV's when viewing HD programmes. Menu system and remote is easy to use.
Weaknesses: This set is not full HD, just half (approx. 1M pixels). With this size screen you really need full HD. Sound system is good for a TV but not very powerful for Home Theatre. You need a good system.
Summary: I would recommend this set to anyone. I believe it represents good value for money but if you want to wait for full HD it will obviously cost more to get that extra resolution. The quality of the picture of this set is pretty good for a big screen, but not as good as say the best 26" LCD half-HD TV's.

Strengths: Great looks, excellent picture, easy to operate, concealed speakers, connectability, menu selection and operation.
Weaknesses: a little too much glare on the screen glass on bright sunny days.
Summary: (Edited June 19th by gencon1) Just bought it and it is better than hoped for. Just looking at it screams "turn me on"! Great picture, sound and just wait until you use it as a computer monitor. Wow!

45 Days Loving Samsung
Strengths: Reasonable price; wonderful picture even without HDMI; Many inputs avilalble.
Weaknesses: Case is piano black which attracts dust and shows smudges; PIP function requires odd combination of video inputs to work (yet to see it work with my current setup).
Summary: I am very pleased with this TV, thanks in large part to the upgrade to HD Cable. With HD shows, the picture is WONDERFUL! It far surpasses the analog signal that I originally had (which was so bad that I almost retuned the set). Remote is pretty basic, but I use the Cable remote now, so it's irrelevant.

40 Days Stylish Appearance and Great Picture
Strengths: Style, picutre, sound, etc.
Weaknesses: N/A
Summary: To be honest, I do not know much about TVs and the difference between Plasma and LCD. My decision was mainly driven by actually seeing the TV at a store and doing a little bit of research about LCD vs. Plasma.

I chose LCD over Plasma because it's lighter, yet more robust (at least according to the articles I read). I chose the Samsung 46" LN-S4692D because I liked the quality of the picture and love the slim, elegant style of the TV itself. The swivel stand comes in handy when trying to connect cords in the back. The audio is of great quality, too. At first, I wanted to purchase additional speakers but now, after hearing the sound, I will spend that money otherwise !

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and am actually thinking about getting another Samsung for the bedroom.

1 Months HDTV Here I Come
Strengths: Beautiful display, supports 480i/480p/720p/1080i, many inputs/output options, and built-in HDTV tuner.
Weaknesses: Picture-in-picture doesn't function between some of the video modes.
Summary: I recommend the LN-S4692D to anyone looking for an affordable yet brilliant display. The one weakness listed for this display isn't that big of a deal, and you shouldn't let that hold you back from buying this beauty. It was definitely worth every penny.
