The more wife & I have looked at this, thought about it, calculated, distances, measured ... we might deiced to go with a 42" instead of 46" although I've been thinking 46" the whole time.

Anyone out there buy a 42" & then wish they'd bought the bigger one ?

We picked up the 40" v2500 last christmas and my dad and I had debated the 46" while at the store because we were worried the 40" was too small. In the room that tv is in we sit about 8-10 feet away and my dad's chair is at a heavy angle at about 5-7 feet. In the application a 46" would have been too big. I have a 42" dlp in my apartment and its pushing the limits of accecpable viewing distance for the size of room and seating position. as a general rule of thumb you want to be at a minimum 1.5x to 2x the screen size away. so 60in-80in min. for a 40" tv. A sharp sales rep. in a recent article in Electronic House quoted "3x the screen size away" which is probably a good standard. I hope that helps.

On the other size of the argue a recent survey from consumer reports found that most lcd customers wish they went a size bigger.

Exactly, I've read that most people wish they'd bought. Looking at the TV's in a massive setting like Cost Co or Sam's, they don't appear they would overpower a room, but you never know till you set it up. I sit about 9 ft from the TV, and if we ever re-arrange, I might be 10/11 ft so I'm thinking 42" would work, but will I be sorry the next day? Who knows.

I would say it would work but thats for me. Some guys/gals like big tv's. im good with the right size. As much as I would love a 46"/50" it would be simply too big anywhere but a great room or a basement. if your kitchen is open next to your family room and you have to option to view will in the kitch it might be worth the larger screen. IMO

For what it's worth - -

My wife is off work today and is out scouting some of the deals.
She just called me from Sears looking at the Sharp ...43U and said the picture is just not all that good. It's sitting right beside a $3,000 Sony. However, she said the Sharp ...64U does have a good picture. That one will be on sale at Circ City for $1,299 on BF.
So, that's prob what I'm going for.
Good luck.

I debated long and hard over this same question. I have always preferred smaller TV's because I have a good eye for PQ, and the smaller the set, the better the picture. When I first started looking for a new TV, my mind was set on a 40"-42". But then I found this forum. I read through threads and asked peoples' opinions. And I ended up buying a 46". And I am sure glad I did. As long as you are buying a 1080p, then the size is no limit. Go big

I'd not sure what your budget is, but I really think you'll be hard pressed to find a better picture at this price. Of course, only my opinion, and I am biased, I do own this TV. It's not a Samsung, but it's a great deal.

They also have a 40" for $1650. They have a great return policy, (90 day) and extend the manufacturer warranty for an additional year.

That's the Sony I saw at Cost Co last week that blew me away. I thought is was about $2200 though.

My wife went to Circ City to look at the Sharp 46" ...64U model. Currently sells for about $2400 on BF price is $1299. CC & BB told her to get a deal like this or any other super duper electronic bargain, you need to get there around midnight as they will start handing out tickets to get in so if you don't get there till 5am, fugeddaboutit.
So, the CC sales lady said buy it now and come back Fri morn to get the diff refunded before it goes off sale. Something to think about.
PLUS - I still love that Sony Bravia!!

Update on buy now & get refund on Fri. Went to CC tonight & talked to a salesman about doing that, and he said yep. Had my doubts so I asked lady at cust service, and she said absolutely NOT. Any doorbuster sales are not availbale for price diff refund. Live & learn.
