I have an LG 37lc7d and I just purchased a samsung surround system ht-x50 I believe. I used a hdmi cable for the upconvert picture. About 80% of the time it will not display a picture, only sound. You will see the samsung blue screen "disc loading" and then it goes black. I called samsung and they said the LG tv has either old or incompatible software referring to copyright. SO the TV is not able to receive a "signal?" from the surround system so the TV puts out a black screen thinking it is bootlegged?? This is the answer I got from samsung. It works just fine using component cables. Anyone herd of this. Any help Greatly appreciated

BTW There is no real difference display wise (except 'maybe' with HDMI 1.3) between HDMI and component connectins. Also a 'plus' with using component over HDMI is the lack of handshake problems associated with HDMI connections. |

Thx for the reply. From what I understand and saw using the upconvert, you cant send the upconvert signal using component cables. Granted the picture still looked good while using the components. I have looked online for information on firmware updates for my TV but no luck. I have a warranty through best buy so eventually I will have someone come out. Is HDMI not even worth the trouble. I hooked my cable up through hdmi instead of the components just for the heck of it and I think the picture looked worse for some reason. Not the case with the upconvert dvd though. The dvd player went to 480 as soon as i hooked them up.

The DVD player most likely will not support HD over component due to copy right issues. The only thing I can suggest is to check the HDMI settings on both the DVD and TV. Your set has more than one HDMI you could try swapping between those as well.

ya, I tried that. No luck. I went back to best buy and talked to someone who seemed "somewhat" in the know. He said that the samsungs are very finecky because they have some feature that is supposed to allow them to communicate with other samsung products through the hdmi and that is what is causing the incorrect "handshake" between the surround/dvd and the LG LCD. He said my only bet would be to have LG come out and try a firmware update which I am starting to agree with because I am now on my second Samsung Ht-x50 with exactly the same results. Components still look very good though even though it is not the upconvert. I would just take it back for a completley different system but I can not bring myself to buy anything else in the 200-300 price range.
