Default Buying 50" Plasma this weekend! Help

I'll be gettin a 50" plasma this weekend and I have picked out the LG 50PC5D. I can get it for 1230 after tax at BB...being i work there. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or had seen this tv. It was on CNET's top like 5 or 6 and it has pretty good reviews. Remember im only a soph. in college so this is better than the 27" CRT im currently gaming/watching!!! I already have the HD cable box and xbox 360. Do you guys think i'll be okay with this tv? Im about 9 ft. from the set...little light, if any at night...obviously haha.

I work at Sears and also carry that TV. its a nice set and thats a pretty good price..We have it between and Panny and a Samsung and it competes pretty well..I haven't seen alot of returns since we began carrying them and I would have no problem recommending it. 50" might be a little big for where your gonna sit...Im about that far away from my 42" and its plenty big....but you'll be prepared for after you graduate....if you have roommates mak sure they understand they can't leave stuff paused on the screen overnight, ect. Plasma are a ton better with not having burn in issues than they were a few years ago, but with enough abuse you can still burn and image in. We did it last year with a dvd menu on a panny...broke my heart

So in your opinion, how does the LG compare to those 2? Like the PQ and blacks and stuff. I know its an crappy feed and split like 5 million ways but you can see them all the time. You think i'd be okay with that set? I just dont think another 200+ can justify the Panny or Sammy, not at this point aka "college" lol. Also, i've heard about the LG's coming back but every manf. has them come back and atleast LG's warranty is for 2 years! Thats pretty nice! Do you work tomorrow? I was going to see if you could hook up an HD DVD or something to the set and tune it and tell me how it looks.

Im actually headed down for florida for the weekend, so im worthless until tuesday...sorry. if your discount is not based on a current promotion you may want to think about waiting for a few weeks....last year the flat panel price wars got out of hand and I would think this year should be no different, not only have i seen some crazy sales ie $900 off a 52" Sony W3000, but the manufacturers will reduce the "regular selling price" as well...its already happened atleast at sears with toshiba, sony, and samsung. Last year I was managing the department during the holidays and it was difficult to keep the signing current because of all of the price moves...it would be worth asking your department manager what they think...waiting could hurt availibilty but BB is ussually much better in keeping things in stock or atleast orderable than we are. I think the LG is a great set...but a price move on the Panny would be a deal breaker im sure...see if the manager knows when they are going to happen. Either way, all three are nice sets and the LG immediately is a great deal...hope it helps, i won't be able to respond to this one...i need to get up in 3hours to get to the airport....message me after making a decision and let me know...good luck and happy high deffing

In my personal comparisons, all things being equal, using broadcast and satellite and HD DVD, the Panasonic has a superior PQ and black level, the Samsung came in second and the LG third. The testing was done in a controlled environment with all of the sets calibrated. If it were me, I would buy the Panasonic even if it costs a little more.

You should have worked there this summer when the rebates were $500-$1000 on top of your employee discount on the Panny Plasmas.

Mine was about $600 after the rebate and employee discount.

Save more money and get the Panasonic. You'd be find with a 42" at that distance as well. Also, break the TV in properly, especially if you're going to be playing games.

Yeh yeh dont rub it in! That still makes me mad that i was like a month late on that insane sale of Panny's. I think im just going to wait and get the 50" 75U. I would go with a 42 but when i move into a house next year im sure it'll be a bit bigger. Why not go 50 too. haha. Yeh i plan of breaking it in just by watching tv without logo's and gaming for like an hour then like 2 hours off then an hour and so on.

Gotta agree that the Panny's look awesome. I was at the Disney Blu-ray Tour today and they had 50" Panny Plasma's and they looked sweet!

I wouldn't even game on it while breaking it in. Honest. Turn down the brightness, whichever TV you get.
