Panasonic one of the leading manufacturers of Plasma TVs, today announced that its rating its best-selling line of 1080p Plasma HDTVs to play for 100,000 hours before reaching half brightness.

Panasonic Plasma TVs will play at least 100.000 hours

Based upon average daily viewing time of 6 1/2 hours, Panasonic 1080p Plasma HDTVs could on average take more than 42 years before they reach half of their original brightness level.

I wouldn't bother with a set that only has 100 hours.

I suppose that is a good thing and I have a 42 Panny plasma that I love but I never have owned a set more than 7 years,and that was the longest. More than likely in that amount of time you would replace every thing else in the tv before you would reach half brightness.
