The 27" crt needs to go soon and I've been looking at these two models. I'm going to be using it for hdtv (cable), ps3 and blu-ray movies so I want 1080p. Plus if I'm going to buy an expensive TV I want it to have the most up to date HD.
Any recommendations on the following? Stay away? Great? Meh? Or are there other brands/models I should look at? (must be 1080p and have 2 or more hdmi inputs) Sharp LC-42D62U 42" AQUOS™ 1080p LCD HDTV http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AXSciIS...284LC42D62#Tab Samsung LN-T4061F 40" 1080p LCD HDTV http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AXSciIS...305LNT4061#Tab I know I can get better prices than Crutchfield. I'm just using their website for research now. Thanks for your help, my first post here too.

Since you don't mention budget restrictions...I would recommend you throw the Sony 40XBR2 in to the mix.

Also, I tried a Sharp 42D62U for a few weeks and took it back due to lousy off-angle viewing, I mean like reminiscent of an old RPTV kind of bad. It was a good set otherwise though and I love my 32" Sharp so maybe I got a bad one??? Just something to look for.

The sammy 4061 has the best picture. It is the newest model just released. sound ??? from the bottom of the tv. The 4066 and 4065 are even better. The sharp and the Sony are dated. Sharps new models are 92s, not 62s.

lol, well unfortunately there is some budget restriction; $2k max but I'd prefer to stay around $1500. I know I'm kind of limited for 1080p in that range.
The 40" Sony KDL-40V2500 looks pretty good. I'll check out the newer Sharps. Sound doesn't really matter since I'll be using my 5.1 system. Thanks for the help

It always helps to state your budget when posting these types of question.

I checked out the sharp, sony and sammy today in person. I like the Sammy, Sharp not so much. The Sony (kdl 40v2500) looked good but not enough to justify paying more than the sammy IMO. So I'm probably going to go with the Samsung (LN-T4061F). It was listed at $1,999 at Video Only. I have seen some ~$1,730 prices on the web but I'm not sure I want to hassle with delivery and stuff. I've never heard of most of the sites too. In the event something goes wrong I might be screwed or have to pay a ton to exchange/return it. Last edited by dubc35; 04-08-2007 at 05:48 PM. |

For what it's worth, my Sharp has been utterly problem free and is a slightly older model. I'm considering picking up a 47" model in a few months. 32" was a little small. I like the 47"-50". I agree you should throw Sony's competition into the mix. If you're already settled on LCD technology, head on over to the local drooling spot (what I call the nice showrooms in my area) and do some sightseeing. I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of the manufacturer's you're looking at.
