Default What mounting screws for Vizio L42HDTV

I just got a new entertainment center with a mount for my tv. The directions say to use the bolts that came with the tv to attach the mounting brackets, but they are not included. What size bolt do I need?

I have the same tv. i bought a tilting wall mount at costco for it. without buying the mount, your next best bet is to either contact vizio for the size and head to lowes or home depot; OR go to costco look at the mount specs on the side of the wall mount box. this is the best I could think of.

Hi and welcome to HDF

I just looked at both the set and the wall mount that Vizio sells, neither tells you which bolt size to use. Here is contact info:

The bolts you will need are as follows: M8-1.25 X 20. 20 is the length that I used and it works well. You could also use 25 if you would like.

It only took about 5 trips between Home Depot and Lowe's to get it right. Oh and several hours of searching the web (with no results).

Are you sure it's M8 and not M6??
My understanding is that all vesa standard mounts were M6, but I could be misinformed there.

same bolts as above... 42 and larger will use the same bolt size so you need 1.25x20 with washers

Default Different size bolts for different size monitors

The Vizio V032LHDTV10A requires a M6-10 and I used the 20mm length M6-1.0X20.

VESA Guide

Display size (diagonal dimension): 305mm to 583mm (12" - 23")
This includes most Computer Monitors

Hole pattern (width x height dimension):
50mm x 50mm or
75mm x 75mm or
100mm x 100mm
Screw type (metric):
M4 x 4

Display Size (diagonal dimension): 584mm to 787mm (23" - 30.9")

Hole pattern (width x height):
100mm x 100mm or
200mm x 100mm
Screw type (metric):
M4 x 4

Display size (diagonal dimension) 787mm to 2286mm (31" - 90")

Hole pattern (width x height):
200mm x 200mm or
280mm x 150mm or
400mm x 400mm or
600mm x 200mm or
600mm x 400mm or
800mm x 400mm
Screw Type (metric):
M6 x 4 or
M8 x 4

The reason the use of M8 vs M6 is not clearly defined is that the VESA standard is actually based on WEIGHT not the the SIZE of the panel and/or hole pattern. Over the years TVs have gotten much lighter; some manufacturers have gone to the smaller M6 while others retained the larger M8. Screw size will always be listed in the owner/operation manual.

Too long of a screw can damage the TV.
