What is HD?

Hey Guys,
I am brand new to the forum - this weekend my wife and I purchased a Panasonic TH-42PX6U after browsing the wonderful information available on this site. I absolutely love the TV so far, however we are currently on standard analog cable. We will probably be updating to digital or switching to DirecTV eventually. Here's where the question part starts - last night we watched the superbowl at a friend's house - he has a Magnavox LCD (37"), and he was receiving HD signals on certain channels through his analog cable connection. As best I can tell, my Panasonic is not currently doing this - am I missing something here, or do I just need to change my setup? |

Your TV needs a QAM tuner to receive the unscrambled HDTV local signals. I am not sure if your model has it or not.

Yes, your TV has a built in QAM tuner. Somewhere in your TV setup you should be able to scan for digital/HD channels. Once you do that, you should be able to pick up any unscrambled HD channels that your cable company provides.
