I spent the weekend at my in-laws house forced to watch their plasma stretched for fear of the dreaded burn in. Not pretty. Sure makes me appreciate home where the picture is better and the rules don't apply.
The side bars "could" cause burn in but the Panny has a setting for the side bars than helps to avoid that (you can set the "strength" of the sidebars color). No much to worry about with that as my last Plasma never had a burn in and my wife would constantly watch shows that did not contain HD content even though there were HD versions on at the same time.

i pulled the trigger last night on the hitachi at circuit city. happy with it so far. i truly believe plasma is the way to go. if you are leaning towards a plasma, you can't go wrong with the panny or the hitachi. i would have gotten the panny, but they were out of stock and i wanted the tv right then and there.

I can't wait to pull the trigger myself and get that Hitachi at Circuit City. I have to wait for the weekend though... hope the deal stays.

Ave,

Folks... I raised my budget, and after reading & seeing all this frenzy over a Panasonic Plasma, I decided to go with this Panasonic 50" Plasma HDTV (TH-50PX60U) going for $1,999 at Circuit City over the 42" Hitachi.

Primary reason for raising budget was three-fold.
a) Just couldn't get over the fact that almost everybody was trumpeting 'Panasonic' over almost any brand, including Hitachi!
b) This Plasma TV is going to be a one-time expense. I wouldn't be able to go out and buy another Plasma or big screen HDTV anytime soon! Why not increase investment and settle the appetite once & for all
c) Wife's Support & Encouragement became the biggest factor!

The fact that they have a $1,000 Sale at Circuit City on this TV added to everything!

Hope I'm making the right choice!

Thanks!

Pioneer is definitly a better Plasma, but for the price, not too many of us can afford a the elite Pioneer plazma. So the next best thing is better for the price is right. Well let me speak for myself. I would love the Pioneer elite plasma, but way out of the budget plan here, plus I would probly be single again if I charge that to the card. Big thing about being married, hahaha, get what you can get when she agree's you can get something before she changes her mind. Then once you get it, tell her dont mess with the remote.

I have a 26" Bravia and my friend has a 42" Panasonic plasma, the plasma always blows me away! The colors are so bright and alive, the picture on my Bravia always seems faded, especially when watching anything that is not in HD. He has had his TV for 3 years , had a few problems, but because he has an extended warranty the TV was repaired three seperate times for no charge.

I visited my folks this weekend and helped them buy a new HDTV. I wanted them to buy a plasma, but they prefered the way the LCD looked. In my opinion the plasma produces a better picture, but they disagreed. They liked the Bravia because it could produce a much sharper image then any of the 42" inch plasma models, I however prefered the plasma's because I thought the colors were brighter. Even after arguing with them for a half hour at Best Buy, they decided to buy a 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD. I wish they didn't. It's their TV If they are happy with it I should be happy, but I am not

Channels that are not in high definition, standard definition, enhanced definition, look HIDEOUS on the 40-inch Bravia, a lot worse than on my 26-inch Bravia. Unbearable to watch! My parents thought the picture looked good, were they blind? In denial? How could they believe that? The NFC championship game on FOX, FOX HD not available in our area, WAS PAINFUL TO WATCH!
The players looked orange, the grass looked yellow, the Bear's uniform looked purple, the colors were faded beyond belief, ICKY !
Thats what I have heard about plasma..repaired 3 times in 3 yrs...
Im sure not every one..but there are a lot..including my panasonic

How does the LCD have it beat all over??? Maybe in total brightness and resolution per screen inch but no way its got it beat in black level detail, contrast, and color accuracy.
