Default AARGH...found two stuck pixels last night...

I have a new Mitsubishi LT-46131. I've had this set for only ten days, and last night when I was close to the set, I noticed two stuck pixels, one in the upper right corner stuck on cyan, and the other in the lower left corner stuck on magenta. I don't know how long they've been there. They are totally invisible from my viewing position, so they don't affect the picture, but now I know they are there, so it kinda bothers me that the set isn't "perfect"anymore. I also hear that faint "cricket" noise when I put my ear right up to the back of the set (I can't hear it otherwise).

I would return the set for a new one, but it would be a pain in the ass to return it to the Sarasota store where I bought it (100-mile round trip), and there is no guarantee the replacement set wouldn't be worse. I don't know if CC's extended warranty for in-home service/replacement applies here...I'll have to call them.

Is this a common occurrence? I figure the set has over 6 million (1920 x 1080 x 3) subpixels in the screen, so there's bound to be a few bad ones in most sets. I am more picky than most people, so I want zero defects. Is that even possible in a set with that many pixels?

HELP!!!

The mfg's say its normal to have a few bad pixels. I say phooey. You just spent a good buck for a brand new TV and it should be perfect. Period!

I would swap it out, take the drive. Do not accept anything less than everything being perfect. Plus, a few bad pixels now doesnt bode well for down the road does it? The set already is proving that a few things are wrong right out of the box. The noise you hear isnt likely anything wrong but LCD's should be pretty quiet.

Just my opinion, but I wouldnt use "service" on a two week old TV.... return it and try again!

Once you know the bad pixels are there, you will always be annoyed and if you or someone else ever does start noticing them (on a blank screen or whatever), the eye will always be drawn to them as a distraction, like a stain on a movie screen.

Except I normally can't see them...I didn't even know they were there until I got right up to the screen.

That's you, under the current conditions. Is there someone else in your family with sharper eyes? What if you start searching the screen every now and then to see if you notice them, will that be a distraction? Only you can answer that, but the longer you wait, the less chance of doing anything about it.

I'm way too anal-retentive. I would never be able to take my eyes off of the dead pixels. If it was me, that bad boy would be going back to the store.

It's gonna be a hassle...but I guess I'll have to bring it back.

Yup...even though I can't see them (even with my better than 20/20 vision) I know they are there, and it gnaws at me. I'm going to have to take it back, even though it will be a big hassle.

Good news! I called CC and explained the problem, and they are going to deliver a replacement set to my home on Wednesday and pick up the defective one, free of charge!

Post Return it.

Noise is unusual for a solid state set.... vibrating air, moving part... (wear) sounds like one of the transformers is out of balance (or is this the typical whine of static charge build up?) and is on the road to failure... take it back, the pixel problem is secondary but will not likely heal itself.

Just read your message... congratulations! Another win for the consumer!

Good deal. Now there's no pain in the ass factor.

Good luck with the next one. If you can, check the new one for dead pixels before the delivery guys split.

Yup...they are going to call tomorrow night with a delivery time, so I will plan to be home on Wednesday when they deliver it. I will power it on and put up a solid white image, then check closely for any bad pixels. Hopefully, the new one will be perfect, and hopefully also not have that cricket noise.

Yes, it does matter. Even though I can't see them from 10 feet away, I know they are there, and it bugs me. I can also see them when I get closer to the TV, like when I load a DVD. When I spend $3,000 on a TV, it had better be PERFECT. Besides, it's making that "cricket" noise, too. I'm better off getting a replacement now, while it's easy.

You did the right thing. If the set's a bargain then maybe you let it slide, but all that happens when you let things slide is the manufacturers get sloppy.

How would you feel if your computer just had two bad bytes of memory--does it matter?
