I'm in the market to purchase a 32" HDTV for my bedroom for the house I'm moving into.

I have been down to my local Best Buy, and the Samsung LN-S3251D definitely looked like the one I was going for. I have been talking to someone else, and they reccomend the Sharp Aquos LC32D42U 32" TV which also has a QAM TV Tuner and seems to have a better contrast ratio and response time. I really haven't seen a lot of reviews of it yet since it is new though. QAM isn't necessarily needed however since I should have an HD cablebox in my room.

They are both in my price range as I am looking for a really good 32" LCD HDTV for my bedroom. Unfortunately I haven't been able to compare them side by side as the sharp tv isn't in the store (I suppose I'd have to order it from ebay).

Since I am new to the HDTV scene, I was wondering if someone could help me out and reccomend either one or a different one, in the price range of around $900-1100. I was hoping to buy one in a store and get a good service plan with it, but the prices seem to be a lot better online (and the aquos tv is only online right now) so I'm not sure. Is a service plan worth it on an LCD TV?

Thanks,

~J

any particular reason why? I've heard really good things about Samsungs too. If they end up being the same price, go Sharp?

I was told it was a new model (maybe the old model will be removed from stores soon).

I have no idea why I haven't seen a major review of it anywhere.

Default Samsung LN-S3151D or Sharp Aquos LC32D42U

I cannot speak for the Sharp, but can tell you I recently purchased the Samsung LN-S3151D and cannot imagine a better picture for HD broadcasts. SD leaves a lot to be desired but I am learning how to best optomize the SD signal. The built in sound is good, and the set is very intuitive to use. Also, I needed to call Samsung on several occasions for some questions, and each time there was less than a 5 minute hold time, and I got a pleasant and knowledgeable person on each call. I was impressed with their support

Default Re: Samsung or Sharp

As a new member and recent purchaser of the Samsung S3251D I can fully recommend it. I compared it side by side with a Sharp AQUOS in store (though probably not the model you are talking about) and the Samsung looked better to me. I live in NJ and picked it up at PC Richard electronics for $999 with a full year to pay it off interest free. I have an Xbox 360 and games in 1080i look disgustingly good.

I agree with a previous poster that SD channels don't look so great but that's to be expected but HD stations come in clear, look amazing and the set has quite a # of inputs on the back including 2 HDMI but only one component input. Don't forget to take factors like that into consideration. What are you planning on hooking up to this TV and are you mounting or putting it on a stand since it's in the bedroom?

Best of luck, you really can't go wrong with either. Every user opinion I've read on the Samsung has been nothing but consistently good so that should count for something. Plus there's something about seeing it in a store and taking it home than buying it 'blind' online.

Default anyone seen it in CT? would like to see it in person

I definitely agree with the part about bringing it home. This new Sharp model is supposed to beat the Samsung in most categories including contrast ratio and response time. It also has a QAM tuner. All of the stores around here that I've been to (in CT) have the older model and not the newer Sharp LC-32D42U model, which supposedly is a lot better. Has anyone in CT seen this TV in person? I wouldn't mind taking a little drive to check it out if its somewhat local.

I agree I'd rather see it in person first. I don't actually move into the house until the end of February, maybe by then the stores will catchup and will have it so I can compare them side by side. I assume the price can only go down on them also, so we'll see.

Since I'm going to want to get a service plan, Id really rather probably get it in a store, unless someone knows of a place that has a solid serviceplan that I can get it from online.

Thanks,

~J
