For the money the pioneer pdp-5045 is prolly the best 50" out there. For sure at $4499 to your door. Thin panel LCD is still around 40-45 inches.
. Lots of good panels out there. Especially if cash flow ain't an issue. |

Confusing fer sure. Just go out and shop around and see all the models your considering. I've seen the old pdp-5040 which was replaced by the pdp-5045 and thought the picture was pretty good. Even when compared to the panie. I like the pioneer because it has a seperate tuner with all the inputs seperating the actual monitor. Just a bit more convenience when hooking up all the video sources.

Theres no comparison when comparing a quality HD Plasma at 50" or higher versus a CRT. Check out this site for some good info plus they post warnings with actual investigative photo's of On-line Fraud Suspected Dealers and some very good info: Just no comparison with a CRT - A quality NEC or Hitachi/Fujitsu and Sony and Samsung will debut new versions next week at CES in Vegas.

I've repeatedly visited 4 different stores and each time the 50" Pioneer Purevision 5041 at BB simply overwhelms all others in the stores and the best DLP cannot come close when side by side but the price will be double the DLP. I'd prefer a 60+" though. The Pioneer is stunning and I believe NEC builds their panels - NEC is the highest rated Plasma and comes with a 3 yr warranty unfortunately I cannot find anyone that has them for viewing - some of their new ones have 68 billion colors with 60,000 hour half life - 20 years at 8 hrs per day WOW factor and apparently have technoloogy now built in to prevent burn in. I buy in 3 months and for me it'll be either the Pioneer, NEC, or Hitachi 55". You can't go wrong with any of these if you have the budget for it. What got me about the Pioneer when viewing side by side with a Sony, Panny, and others viewing the same broadcast it was if the Pioneer brought you into the picture like 3D versus looking at a flat screen. Hard to explain but it had a WOW factor -Good Luck!

Would never buy a Pioneer Plasma from a box store. Simply too expensive. The Best Buy 5041 is a outdate 5040. Which has been surpassed by the 5045. The BB price is like well over 6000 buck whereas the 5045 from an authorized internet dealer is 5300-5600 to your doorstep with a far cheaper extended warranty.

50" of HD Love (Pan 7UY)

Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY – have it, love it, the best.
CNET: “The picture quality of the TH-50PHD7UY is much more accurate straight out of the box than that of most consumer plasma TVs we've tested. Naturally it can still be improved with professional calibration, and once done, it is the best-performing plasma panel we've tested to date, bar none.” CNET gave it an overall score of 8 because it does not have all the frilly options of consumer models, but if picture is the main feature, then you can’t go wrong with the Panny. I used the Video Essentials DVD to tweak the calibration of the screen (which it didn’t need much). Unless your are shopping at a high end store, be careful of the side by side tests as most of the sales dweebs probably haven’t fine tuned each picture. Play with the settings yourself to see if you can tune each picture to your taste and then compare. You never know if 3 year old Billy or 90 year old Gramma got their hands on the controls. Just my 2 cents. |

I have the NEC 50xm3/s and I am very satisfied with it. It is only a monitor, but I already have a surround sound set up, so I don't need the tuner. The PQ is amazing for HD, but SD is kinda crappy. I have DirecTV and Comcast.

Best Buy has the 50" Pioneer 5041 Plasma on sale for $5499 minus a $500 BB mail in rebate, plus you get a $500 BB gift card, and if you sign up for their Rewards Zone card, you will get points worth about $120. For a total of less than $4400.00. Oh, and they have 18 month no interest financing. Best deal I have found. I plan to buy it tomorrow. Expires Saturday 1/22/05.
I've looked at the 5045 but can't see any improvement in picture over the 5041, despite the new type of reflective screen coating on the 5045. I must admit though that I still don't know if there is any difference between the 5040 and the 5041. |

As far as I know, the only difference between the 5040 and 5045 is the cable card slot in the 5045.
And the 5040 = BB 5041 . Last edited by BruZZi; 01-20-2005 at 10:36 PM. |

anyone know what the difference is between the TH-50XVS30 and the 7UY? I have read a lot of concern about, in particular, the picture quality of the 7UY when hooked to S-Video, but component hookup only improves, does not eliminate problem. See AVS Forum.
