Default 1080p input TV?

Simple question for you HDTV'ers....
Would you buy a TV now that is 1080p native res, but can't actually accept a 1080p signal, like many cheaper ones currently out there? Or spring extra bucks and get one that can accept true 1080p with no deinterlacing?

As long as the display properly deinterlaces an incoming 1080i signal...I don't see why not.

Considering I watch a lot of network TV and most network HD is 1080i, my answer would be yes as long as the deinterlacer is a good one. That is far more important than being able to accept a 1080p input signal.

Which brings us to what 1080p input signal? I was assuming you were refering to a 1080p/60 input signal, but if you were speaking of a 1080p/24 input signal and the TV would refresh at 72 Hz then yes, if you got the bucks go for the 1080p/24. That will assure judder free display, but then there is only a few TV that will input 1080p/24.

Overall for normal TV and DVD watching a set that will take 1080i and 720p is just fine.

Check out this link: 1080p HDTVs
Also check out the other links it refers to. There is a list of HDTVs that pass the interlace test in one of them and if you set is on the passed list, then I'm sure it is fine.
