What is the difference in the models? Which is better? I assume it has something to do with the PLL Synthesizer Tuner in the G4U & the Frequency Synthesizer (Analog/Digital) Tuner in the GD4U, but I do not know what these mean?

If you don’t want cable or satellite service then the only way to get digital TV, whether SD or HD is over the air (OTA) with an ATSC tuner using an UHF antenna, providing you live close enough to the stations to get an acceptable signal.
As I said before, the “D” model has a built in ATSC OTA tuner, the other one doesn’t and will be cheaper. If you don’t need an ATSC tuner now, you can always add an external one later. It’s not a question of which one is better; the TVs are the same. The question is which one best for your needs. Example, I live in a brick condo that faces North and away from all of my areas local TV transmitters, and there is no chance of my using an antenna, indoors or outdoors, and I have no plans on moving. I don’t need an ATSC tuner in the foreseeable future, so wouldn’t buy the “D” model. Last edited by Lanny; 12-20-2004 at 11:07 PM. |

I have the LC-32GD4U and I think it's worth mentioning that all of the AV inputs and outputs are on the back of the display itself. The G4U requires and external AVC box for the connections then a single "mother" cable connects to the display from the AVC box. I wanted the ATSC tuner and did not want another component to hide so the choice was easy for me. Good luck.

Ditto --- The GD4U is higher priced as well because they included the integrated ATSC tuner... so if you don't need integrated you'll be fine with the G4U

Of course, with a OTA tuner, you do NOT have to subscribe to cable or satellite and can still watch the networks. If your cable or sat goes out you can still watch something, or you can take your HDTV to your UNI-Bomber cabin up on a mtn side and still get your soap opera fix!!

The new Sharp model is the LC-32GA5U, MSRP $3,299. No Built-in HDTV tuner and all connections on the back of unit, no separate box like the LC-32G4U. However, the side speakers are permanent and do not remove like the other two. Also there is a $200 rebate on all Sharp 32 LCD until end of Feb 2005. See here:
