i went to circuit city to look at a good tv around $2,000. When i was walking i came across the Xbr2 on display. It looked amazing but it had a huge price. I went home and searched and i can find 12 "reputable" online dealers that offer it for around $1,000 less. making it just a small stretch from my budget. I really like this tv. I want to know if I should make the small stretch and get it or not. I was originaly planning not to spend more than 2,000 though i feel I might be able to spend a few more dollars if i thought it was worth it.

The best price I've seen online is about $2400 and $2600 + tax store bought ( not CC ) for the 40XBR2. Excellent choice by the way. I picked up a 46XBR2 for $3100 + tax. I'm enjoying the bigger screen for $500 more.

If you can truly afford it...then give it serious consideration. The PQ from the XBR2 is unmatched for LCDs at that size/resolution.Finding the online retailer who you can trust is key. Reading some of those nightmarish experiences on customer reviews can be discouraging. Read carefully the reviews for any NYC sites offering incredible prices.

The "big name" online dealers list it for 1000 more than the others which leads me to beleive its too good to be true.

I had the impression that the XBR2 didn't carry that much of a premium over the XBR1, but I see it does. I'd suggest (assuming you're set on a Sony) you look at the XBR1, I'd suspect the PQ is amazingly similar AND the value may be FAR better.

It carries a premium over the XBR1 because there are some significant improvements rather than just an annual refresher on the model number. To just list a few: higher resolution (1080p), color accuracy and range from the new WCG-CCFL backlighting, higher contrast and finally 3 HDMI connections.
Whether those improvements are worth paying for depends on whether you really want the higher PQ and added connectivity, but rather than suspecting that PQ is similar to the XBR1, you may want to compare them firsthand. I found the PQ to be much improved over last year's model.

I had the XBR 1 and had a defect PC Richard was kind enough to give the even exchange but I opted for the XBR 2 because of the look alone. As it seems "bender222" is also. Let alone the upgraded features the XBR 2 has, more res, 1920 x 1080 native res, 3 HDMI and other features. But the price is steep so if you aren't ready to take a jump don't. I have a really hard time trusting those online sites for such a big purchase. Sure they are almost 1000 less but you never know what can go wrong. While you hear good things about the big chains taking them back with out a hassle. PC Rich has the best price for the XBR 2 right now because of their company pricing thing.
By the way 2 weeks with the TV and no problems. Other then the usual SD needs a lot of tweeking. Hope this helps you Bender222. Also, JIMMM where did you get the 46 XBR2 for $3100 fantastic price. |

Ah, that means the value could be even bigger. If you blacked out all but the screen, sat 10 folks 9 feet or so away, how many would instantly know the 1920 set from the 1366 set? I'd almost put money that if you put the price on them showing 1000-1200 buck differential, all 10 would go for the XBR1.

The rating of the XBR2 at the Circuit Cty website was 4 out of 5.
I wonder why not a 4.8 or an even 5? What are the downfalls of this tv?
