When redesigning my TV room, I have received several conflicting answers on how to mount a flat panel TV. At first I was going to make a recessed area in the wall so the flat panel was almost flush with the face of the wall but some of the local dealers (BB/CC) have told me not to do this as the units run excessivly hot and that the enclosure would not assist the cooling process. They have recommended mounting it on the face of the wall with nothing to restrict air flow around the unit. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this issue before the sawdust starts flying?

i dont have any flat panels(yet) but i would go with what they suggested.. mounting it INSIDE the wall surrounded by the wall will not allow the unit to cool. its probably best to just using a regular mounting procedure.

Got your instruction manual???
I see a whole of people whom mount there's on the wall, but with my manual then running my hand around it, NEVER, would I flush mount it, recess it etc without air flow ideals in place. Mine manual says 8 inches off the wall min, and 8 inches overhead min. Inside a recess if I was to do it, which looks alot better, the recess would have to be deep 10 inches or so and lots of room around it. Rear top vented if all possible to allow air flow around it or a rack like fan system blowing from under it to around and over it to keep air from heating to extremes in the recess.

I mounted my LC37D4U on a tilt mount which is bolted into the wall studs. I have absolutely no problem with heat. As already posted, just remember to keep a good buffer zone around the set to allow for air flow.

It's really a matter of ventilation. We have mounted them in cabinets and even behind mirrors totally enclosed. With fans there is no problem. Just get quiet ones.
![]() The cabinet on the left has a 60" plasma behind the door that raises when the TV is turned on. There is a 50" plasma behind the two way mirror over the fireplace! Those were put in service about 5 years ago. |

We have also recessed plasmas into the wall with no problems at least at this point. I believe or first in-wall mount was roughly 4-5 years ago.
But we have been putting them in custom cabinet with no problems. |
