What is the best way to clean the display of LCD or plasma TV. Are there any standard cleaning chemicals (Windex etc.) that should not be used? Thanks

As silly as this will sound, the best way to clean the LCD screen is to NOT let it get dirty in the first place! Heres what you can do:
1. Lightly dust the TV & screen EVERY day to prevent build-up. I use a soft material duster and whisk away dust from the cabinet and screen. Be gentle! 2. Keep drinks, fluids, food, etc, etc away from the viewing area. One splash of Pepsi on the screen and yer screwed! 3. Do NOT use paper towels, kleenex, or old shirts for wiping if you do have to wipe it down. Use camera lens cloths.... I use these for my TV and my telescope lens and they are as gentle as could be but do the job. Use a lens cleaning solution which is made for fragile glass. 4. Did I mention to NOT allow it to get dirty in the first place? The best tip is PREVENTION. My TV is 4 months old and has been wiped down maybe twice. Thats it. The rest of the time it just gets dusted daily. Cool?

I'd highly recommend:
http://www.klearscreen.com/ Get a bottle of the fluid and the microfiber cloth. I've used this stuff for years on LCDs, glasses, coating sunglasses, camera optics, etc. This is without a doubt the best stuff to use. |

Exactly how fragile are LCD screens? I'm considering getting one but I hear so many stories about cracked LCD screens that I am concerned. I know that when you press on an LCD screen lightly it causes temporary weird color blemishes. Are those damaging to your set? How hard do you have to press on the screen to crack it or cause permanent damage?
There are a lot of insects and things in my room (it's not isolated well enough from the outside so the occasional flies, mosquitos, and ants tend to come in) and if I watch TV at night with the lights out if there is even a single flying insect in my room it will go to my TV screen where it must be smashed and cleaned off. This has never been a problem for me before as I've always had CRT TVs, but would having to smash insects and clean them off an LCD HDTV regularly be dangerous to the set? |

damn thats a really good question.for AGES i've ponder about why is it when i touch a LCD screen it gets all werid .. funny thing is it actually looks like theres liquid in there... is there!?. i know its called liquidCD for a reason but i thought it was just a name.. i read that they didnt actually have crystals in them too..
but i always wondered too WHY!!! is it that it does that and is it indeed damaging.. im assuming it certainly is!! .. i need to be very very aware and carefull since i have a 3 1/2yr old kid and a 7month kid.. my 3yr old loves to touch my current TV now.. |
