Was at Sears the other day and saw a 40" LCD Sony TV with a couple dead pixels. It looked terrible there was like a bright whiteish light coming through the pixels and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I think it was the Bravia 40" XBR1.
Does this also happen with Plasmas? If so is it less common with Plasmas? I heard it is not covered buy Manufacters Warranty or most extended Warranties for that matter. |

Plasma pixels are phosphor-based and very different from LCD pixels. Don't think the dead-pixel problem applies to plasmas.

Dead pixels is an LCD thing.
Strange to see dead ones on a Sony which are the highest priced of the bunch. My Sharp has NO dead pixels! The store samples get reamed on, you gotta figure they run all day, all the time and the settings are cranked up to the max on top of that. It's rare, but it can happen.

I have had the Sony 40" XBR1 since Oct. '05 and do not have any stuck or dead pixels (knock on wood). I don't think it is very common with the Sony, if it was you would hear lots about it I think.

Sony is king of the dead pixels. Don't get me wrong I have had plenty of good sony products but recently I bought a laptop from Sony and it arrived with one dead pixel. I called them and told them this but they claimed that there is an acceptable amount of dead pixels allowed to every LCD screen and I could return the laptop since it was within 30 days but I would not get a replacement since a dead pixel or two is acceptable. Acceptable? Give me a break. Of course I returned the laptop. I had several sony LCD laptops and they where all fine. Seems like if the LCD comes out of the box good it will last a long time before a pixel goes bad. at least thans what I have found. I have a LCD TV (not Sony) and it has been fine.

We have seen dead pixels on every brand of tv's we sell. Last
x-mas we replace two Hitachi 60" RPTV in a matter of two day for a customer. First one had about 3 bad pixel toward the bottom and the second had bad pixels on top. But the third set was perfect. It happens to all brands. Last week we had a customer with a defective Yamaha 2600 receiver. I plugged it in no power. Every brand has a certain percentage of defective products. |
