Question 42PX50U Bad Picture Quality?

I went to CC last night to see the new 42PX60U Panny. I was surprised at the strange picture quality. CC had all the HDTVs running showing HDnet channel via Cox Cable, so I was able to compare all the HDTVs with the same signal. At close inspection, the Panny's colors and picture quality appeard to be globbed (bubbled) together! I could turn my head and see the Philips 42PF7320A picture was clearer! I said, "this can't be right".

By the way, I saw the same effect at Sears on the 42PX60U demo model showing a DVD (using the 3 lead hook-up).

Is Panasonic using some type of software-effect or pixel fill-in for lower bandwidth HD signals, that gives that bubbly-look (sorry best way I know how to discribe it) to the images on the screen?

I want to buy the Panny, but the picture quality has me concerned. Can someone explain what is going on with the new Panny?

Well since you've only seen that model at CC and Sears, I can only guess you haven't seen a properly calibrated model with a good quality HD feed. Check other threads out in this forum and you'll see the positive responses so far.

It is 'sharpening', a hardware-based image-processing algorithm that produces such neat artifacts as 'clayface' and 'posterization'. Panasonic has made this virtually non-defeatable in a vain attempt to match the natural sharpness of high-resolution LCDs.

When I saw it at Best Buy it looked great.
You say you looked closely. How close?
I probably looked at it from a few feet away. This makes me want to have yet another look at it...closer this time.
